Intercultural Citizenship Education through Teacher Education for the Mediation of Picturebooks

<< Objectives >>The overall obejctive of ICETEMP is to strengthen the awareness and implementation of intercultural citizenship education in foreign language teaching and learning in Europe. This overall objective will be achieved by promoting the use of dialogic pedagogies for I&CE through picturebook mediation by teacher educators in pre-service EFL teacher education, with the implicit aim of supporting intercultural citizenship education with primary and lower-secondary foreign language learners.<< Implementation >>The project will implement the following central activities:- curriculum and concept mapping of the central themes of the project.- train teacher educators in dialogic pedagogies and the use of collaborative online learning- implement dialogic approaches and COIL in a teacher education module aimed at facilitating the development of student teachers' picturebook mediation competences- support student teachers' in their try-outs of picturebook mediation in practicum schools<< Results >>A transnational analysis of partner curricula in relation to I&CE and guidelines for other HEIs to useA collection of best practice examples in relation to the central project themesA set of 'best practice films'A prototype teacher education module adapted for different contextsA handbook supporting teacher educators' competence developmentA set of good practice examples and picturebook mediations developed by student teachersDifferent types of publications aimed at different stakeholders
