MOBA

The MOBA (Multiomics of Vascular Brain Aging) doctoral network will train a new generation of researchers in multi-omics data science applied to brain aging while establishing a European hub of excellence in this field. It will investigate the molecular determinants of cerebral small vessel disease (cSVD)—a key contributor to stroke and dementia—by integrating genomics, epigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and glycomics with brain imaging and artificial intelligence. MOBA’s unique integrative approach combines multi-omic analysis, exposome research, and neuroimaging to identify molecular signatures of cSVD and its impact on cognitive decline and dementia. Understanding the role of environmental and socio-economic factors will further enhance this framework. Doctoral candidates will access diverse population-based cohorts worldwide and work with international leaders in the field to analyze molecular and environmental determinants of brain health. Advanced sequencing techniques and AI-driven modeling will enable the discovery of predictive biomarkers, paving the way for novel prevention and therapeutic strategies. Through interdisciplinary collaboration across academia, research institutes, and industry partners, MOBA aims to deliver lasting scientific, societal, and economic impact.
