One way to significantly improve the sustainability of our energy base and reduce our CO2 emissions is through the scavenging of waste heat with thermoelectric generators. The BIsCOTTES project aims at developing cost-effective TE sulfide systems. The scientific approach is based on the investigation of bulk sulfide materials and devices, including materials processing, structure/microstructure analyses, transport properties measurements, design and assembly of modules. The two partners and involved people have strong complementary expertise and know-how, assessed by a significant number of common publications, for successfully reaching the objectives of BIsCOTTES. Powders and ceramics will be produced at CRISMAT, legs and modules assembled at IJL and the physico-chemical characterizations, transport properties measurements and stability testing will be led by the two groups. The design of cost-effective and efficient thermoelectric devices would bring a significant breakthrough for the development and commercialization of thermoelectric systems for medium-range temperature applications (T<700 K).
