High temperature (HT) account for large yield losses in crops worldwide. Understanding how plants cope with HT in their environment while maintaining good crop yield and quality is an important issue. Regarding viticulture, grapevines thrive under unfavourable conditions but start to suffer over 35°C. The predicted temperature elevation should damage plant growth, and alter berry properties. Thus, it is urgent to anticipate the effects of extreme temperatures on vineyards. Exploiting Vitis genetic diversity to select varieties better adapted to the future climate is a valid alternative. PARASOL will study some HT-affected developmental processes to identify molecular actors modulating the observed effects. PARASOL is all the more relevant, as knowledge regarding grapevine HT signalling is scarce. This project will study grapevine HT response by characterising few HT-induced transcription factors and their interaction with main parameters of plant resilience and fruit quality.
