Description
Venous thromboembolism (VTE), a major public health concern, encompasses deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE). It is the third leading cause of cardiovascular death worldwide. Risk factors include inflammatory diseases, sedentary lifestyle, genetics, diabetes, obesity and hormonal contraception. VTE often occurs in the large veins of the lower limbs and can lead to PE. Treatment is based on anticoagulants, but it carries a risk of bleeding. The proposed project aims to develop a targeted anticoagulant approach to improve therapeutic efficacy while reducing treatment side-effects.
