Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting 340,000 women in France. The objectives of the INORA project are (i) to predict in a patient-specific manner the mechanical state of the internal structures of the foot (ex: joint pressures) and (ii) open the way to in-silico clinical trials for the personalized design of orthopedic insoles. A segmentation technique based on automatic machine learning will allow the creation of personalized finite element models. Those will be used to optimize an insole based on a pain-relief criterion during walking, based on data obtained from a clinical study on a cohort of RA patients. This study will provide a better understanding of the biomechanical determinants of joint pain, with a direct application and a measurable benefit to the patient’s care.
