Trauma is one of the most important risk factors for osteoarthritis. Repairing osteochondral lesions soon after the trauma could prevent or delay the onset of osteoarthritis. Unfortunately, there is a dramatic lack of solutions for this repair. ARTiTHERA project concerns the implementation and evaluation of an innovative preventive therapeutic strategy, based on an adaptable therapeutic construct associating therapeutic wound dressings and bone marrow derived stem cells. The project will involve technological optimization, therapeutic evaluation in vivo in a model of osteoarthritic rats, to finalize the preclinical studies already validated, and phase 1 safety clinical assessment by arthroscopy in patients suffering from a traumatic injury in the knee. The ready made ARTiTHERA kit will contain bone and cartilage wound patches to use according to the need. ARTiTHERA will induce significant benefits for patients. By its wound dressing action ARTiTHERA will stabilize the wounded region, enabling a reduction in discomfort, pain and potentially osteoarthritis development risk.
