The present proposal will provide important answers to fundamental questions about electron transfer at interfaces and electron hopping between redox centers of different nature assembled in a supramolecular architecture. The preparation of giant rotaxanes will rely on development and adaptation of a very recent and original synthetic approach issued from the consortium. These systems will be studied by ultrafast electrochemistry in view of determining the mechanism(s) and kinetics of electron hopping inside these macromolecules. Our consortium presents one group specialized in synthesis, and another one in molecular electrochemistry. We therefore propose a very original approach compared to literature, which allows to control both directionality and rate of a signal transduction. Important progresses in the field of molecular electronics are thus expected.
