LIPCAR-HF

The objective of this proposal is the development of the long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) LIPCAR as a new diagnostic and prognostic marker for heart failure (HF) patients. Together Partner 1 (France) and Partner 2 (Germany) have shown that the novel circulating lncRNA LIPCAR is present in blood plasma of patients with cardiovascular diseases. The plasma LIPCAR levels successfully identified patients developing significant cardiac remodeling after myocardial infarction (MI) and are associated with early cardiovascular death in HF patients with reduced ejection fraction (EF<40%) (HFrEF). LIPCAR levels in HF patients with mid-range EF (40-49%) (HFmrEF) are required in order to better categorize this population. In this proposal, we will: - Measure circulating levels of LIPCAR levels in blood samples of cohorts of HFrEF and HFmrEF patients phenotyped for MI, cardiomyocyte stress/injury, inflammation and myocardial fibrosis and healthy controls obtained from the consortium. - Evaluate LIPCAR levels for gender differences in outcome of HF patients. - Evaluate normal values LIPCAR levels in healthy controls. - Evaluate LIPCAR levels against or combined with other biomarkers of myocardial fibrosis, cardiomyocyte stress/injury and inflammation. - Develop a new molecular phenotyping of HF patients with rEF and with mid-range EF combining LIPCAR and other cardiac biomarkers. This project of 36 months will enable scientists from 5 European countries to join in an interdisciplinary team for characterizing LIPCAR against or combined with other biomarkers as predictor of outcome in HF patients.
