The scientific program "Cooperative and Transcultural Participatory Action Research" aims to qualify self-organized research in France and in Europe, by emerging organizations, structured as associations or cooperatives. While the work on participatory research is often interested in the links between actors and researchers, associations and research cooperatives build an intermediary, a space of hybridization of knowledge between practical and academic environments. The study of these new organizations is innovative, because these structures are little identified institutionally and are poorly taken into account in scientific policies. The analytical work on this question should notably allow us to understand the construction of support systems for participatory research in higher education. It is also a question of proposing changes in higher education policies and the taking into account of these initiatives of the third sector of research, in a logic of research-action, in France and in Europe. Analyzing a marginal structuring, such as that proposed by research associations and cooperatives, is also interesting for the sociology of science. In order to carry out such a work and to prepare it as well as possible to apply to the ERC, it is necessary to rely on research already carried out by a research cooperative on the commitments of young people and on the pathways of young exiles. It is also planned to link these dynamics with other participatory research experiences in France and in Europe, in social sciences. This should allow us to build a more general work on the modalities of knowledge hybridization, in the systems called in France "third sector of research", sometimes embodied in "third research places". To anchor the analyses, it is also planned to work in connection with academic systems of work on participatory research, such as the recent labels set up by the Ministry of Higher Education and Research. Finally, it is necessary to work on the more informal initiatives of scientific mobilizations of certain associations, whose initial activity is not part of the construction of new scientific knowledge. This preparatory work for an application to the ERC is thus an opportunity to analyze the mutations at work in the university field, by focusing on the dynamics of civil society, while situating them in the context of institutional evolutions.
