BOUNDARYBOAR

The increase in wild boar abundance has a huge economic cost and creates a strong tension between stakeholders (hunters, farmers, protected area managers…). This tension, as well as the lack of data, limits the collective thinking around alternative management practices. The project has the ambition to make stakeholders cooperate with each other by designing a study of the spatial ecology of wild boar that will provide factual data later used as “boundary objects” facilitating the discussion amongst actors. A participatory modelling approach, which allows the collective building and understanding of the functioning of the system and the exploration of management scenarios, will also be used. The project, by revealing the socio-ecological interdependencies, will improve synergy between stakeholders to design and implement more effective management practices, and could be a major breakthrough in animal geography and spatial ecology, and in turn for the management of human-wildlife conflicts.
