Hydrogen will play a vital role in the decarbonisation of hard to abate sectors, especially energy intensive industry, shipping, railway and seasonal energy storage. However, storing hydrogen is notoriously difficult, and raising safety challenges. Mincatec Energy is developing a game changing solution that enables high density hydrogen storage at low pressure at ambient temperature. Working in partnership with leading metal hydride researchers from the Neel Institute in Grenoble, we reached major milestones in bringing this technology from lab to market. In 2022, our technology was successfully integrated in a lightweight vehicle and in 2024, we began work on two large scale stationary storage projects. These achievements have been recognised through numerous awards, and this year, our first equity fund raising will enable us to build our first manufacturing capabilities. Our next major R&D objective is to adapt our technology for the maritime and inland waters shipping sector. This represents a potential market of around 6.5Bn € by 2050, facing strong pressure from European policy to decarbonise. However, R&D investment and risks associated with reaching this market are high. We require investment from the EIC Accelerator to improve storage density, certify our product regarding maritime requirements and build an on-board vessel demonstrator to validate our technology. Following this, we anticipate an additional investment to adapt and grow our manufacturing capability for the shipping industry.
