AFDLAB (Automated Field DNA Laboratory) aims to revolutionize biodiversity monitoring by providing a fully automated (off-grid and unmanned) solution for in-field eDNA sampling, handling, and analysis. This innovative technology will make automated biodiversity analysis accessible and affordable for both public and private organizations, enabling effective surveillance of invasive and rare species, and transforming how biodiversity is monitored on a global scale. This innovation not only enhances data quality but also enables real-time analysis, making it a game-changer in the field. The project is conducted by DMR A/S, a marked leading company combining environmental consultancy with hardware innovation and production. DMR has a clear vision for scaling up its operations. With a strong track record in developing innovative technologies, DMR aims to enhance its market position through the AFDLAB project, which aligns defined strategic growth goals. The project involves inherent risks associated with cutting-edge technology development. However, DMR's experience and the prototype's current TRL level 6 mitigate these risks. The company has demonstrated its ability to navigate challenges in previous projects, ensuring a robust approach to development. The proposal outlines a clear plan for transitioning AFDLAB from TRL 5, and DMR's established infrastructure and expertise in environmental technologies position it well for successful implementation. Funding from the EIC Accelerator is crucial for realizing the AFDLAB project. It will not only accelerate development but also attract further investment and interest from potential customers, including environmental agencies. This support aligns with EU priorities in sustainability and innovation, making it essential for the project's success.
