Besides sustaining the current European Partnership Animal Health & Welfare and keeping improving its current operations, EUPAHW 2.0 will implement substantial additional activities. These will align with the current Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda (SRIA) and its ongoing update, to be finalised in 2026. The 2nd Internal Programme including 18 Joint Internal Projects –corresponding to 18 SRIA actions-, performed by 52 Research Performing Organisations (RPO), will start in 2026. A 3rd Internal Programme will start in 2029. In parallel, 3 additional external research calls will be launched, with call 2 scheduled for early 2026 and subsequent calls in 2027 and 2028. The first call, launched under EUPAHW, “Supporting the future of animal health and welfare”, allowed the selection of 20 transnational research projects that will start in 2025. These projects will involve 84 entities from 19 countries and cover 9 SRIA actions under 7 Operational Objectives. Additional dissemination activities will include the organisation of two “Science to impact” conferences, 4 Scientific Conferences linked to the results and outputs of the different activities of the Partnership and multiple workshops addressing various groups of stakeholders including farmers, veterinarians and scientists. In 2026, the Partnership will expand with 9 beneficiaries including 4 new Funding Organisations and 2 new partner countries, Romania and North Macedonia. Networking and complementarities with related European Partnerships and other relevant initiatives will be strengthened to foster synergies and avoid overlaps. Furthermore, global international cooperation will be achieved by supporting 2 worldwide organisations (WOAH, CABI) active in animal health and welfare through the STAR-IDAZ International Research Consortium. Alignment with global AH&W policies will maximize the impact of EU funding by leveraging additional international resources and facilitating coordinated investment strategies.
