DUET-PIT

SoliTek’s DUET-PIT project aims to bring to market the first fully integrated photovoltaic (PV) system tailored for vertical infrastructure such as noise barriers and roadside walls. The objective is to transform passive transport corridors into productive, land-neutral energy assets, addressing the EU’s urgent need for space-efficient solar deployment, energy sovereignty and industrial resilience. The project will achieve this by advancing a next-generation PV system based on tandem perovskite-on-silicon and IBC cells, delivering 27-28% module efficiency and over 1,000 MWh/year of energy per km of noise barrier - over 30% more than standard PV modules. DUET-PIT modules are co-developed with infrastructure partners to meet demanding mechanical, acoustic and durability requirements, with a certified lifespan of 50 years. To reach TRL8, the project will complete final certification and secure country-specific compliance for key EU markets, while deploying pilot installations in first target countries in collaboration with transport authorities. In parallel, SoliTek will finalise development of low-temperature processes for tandem cell lamination and interconnection, while upgrading its 90 MW EU-based production line. The DUET-PIT innovation directly contributes to the objectives of the EIC Accelerator call by providing a deep-tech, EU-manufactured clean-tech solution addressing Europe’s climate, industrial, and digital transitions. It aligns with the European Green Deal, REPowerEU and the Net-Zero Industry Act by offering a scalable pathway to decarbonise the transport sector while restoring EU control over strategic solar manufacturing. The expected impact includes >60% cost savings compared to rooftop PV in infrastructure applications, 250-300 tons of CO2e savings per km annually and 4-5× increase in production output within 5 years - supporting both green industrial growth and the EU’s 2030 solar capacity target of 750 GW.
