AGRINEXT

European agriculture faces profound transitions: climate change, biodiversity loss, digitalisation, and generational renewal are reshaping skills and competences across the sector. Yet lifelong learning (LLL) systems remain fragmented, unevenly integrated into Agricultural Knowledge and Innovation Systems (AKIS), and poorly aligned with emerging needs. Training is often standardised, inaccessible to underrepresented groups, and weakly connected to policy and governance structures. Without a systemic transformation, farmers, advisors, and rural workers will lack the competences required to ensure sustainable, competitive, and resilient farming in line with the Green Deal and CAP targets. AGRINEXT addresses this challenge by creating an integrated, inclusive, and future-oriented model for agricultural LLL. It combines foresight, co-creation, digital innovation, and governance reform into a coherent and adaptive system tested in 10 pilots across Europe. Outputs include: the FutureFit Competence Model to anticipate emerging skills; a benchmarking framework mapping LLL systems in over 20 countries; modular learning pathways co-designed with farmers and advisors; the AgriAI-Assistant, the first multilingual, inclusive, AI-powered learning tool for agriculture; the AgriLLL-Gov Framework to embed LLL in CAP and AKIS governance; and the AgriLLL-Cred System, a recognition and incentive mechanism linking learning to CAP rewards and micro-credentials. AGRINEXT is implemented by a strong interdisciplinary consortium of 21 partners from 12 countries, bringing together expertise in agronomy, education sciences, digital technologies, social sciences, and policy analysis. By validating its innovations with over 1,500 learners in highly diverse agroecological and institutional contexts, AGRINEXT ensures both local relevance and EU-wide scalability. It turns LLL into a driver of competitiveness, sustainability, and resilience across rural Europe.
