Creative Learning for Life

<< Background >>We applied for this project because we identified a clear and growing need among our students for more than just vocational and soft skills. Many students lack essential practical skills needed to navigate everyday life — skills that help them manage stress, build healthy relationships, stay motivated, and make informed decisions in both their personal and professional lives.Current VET programs primarily focus on job-specific competencies, but they often overlook broader life competencies that are crucial for personal development. We observed a gap between what students learn at school and what they actually need to function effectively in the real world. This project gave us the opportunity to address that imbalance by integrating Life Skills into the educational experience. In addition, we saw the need to make teaching more engaging and effective through Creative Teaching. Traditional methods are often not enough to capture students’ attention or stimulate their full potential. By exploring innovative, student-centered approaches, we aim to make learning more relevant, meaningful, and impactful for today's learners.<< Objectives >>Our aim was to have new, creative tools in our curriculum to train our students in Life Skills in a more attractive way. We wanted to explore new opportunities to Life Skills development by exchanging current practices and building up competences aiming for implementing non-traditional pathways of learning through creative methods. More specific the objectives of the project were:•To understand the theoretical back ground, rationale of Life Skills Concept in VET and assessing this with students in VET;•To increase the creativity capacity of the individual teachers/trainers through specific learning arrangements of various methods and techniques on creativity in teaching and training;•To increase Life Skills development of students in VET;•To validate various methods and techniques in Creative Teaching of Life Skills development to students in VET.<< Implementation >>In the project we developed and implemented (in coproduction) the following instruments:•A document that describes the Life Skills, the importance of Life Skills for students in VET and the methods for training Life Skills.•A set of 10 modules (primary) for teachers about the essence of each Life Skill •A self-assessment tool for students to measure their performance against the 10 Life Skills which consists of•Survey for students•Excell file to make individual and group profiles•Manual how to process the data of the surveys and how to use the profiles while making a program to train the life skills•A compendium with training modules to train Life Skills. All modules were tested and evaluated with students and teachers.•At train the trainer event for all teachers/trainers to be able to train Life Skills for studentsAlso, all teachers/trainers had an individual assessment to find out their natural competences in order to make choices in training Life Skills for students.<< Results >>Outputs are that at the project partners: •Teachers understand Life Skills Concept in VET (94 % of the teachers involved are able to explain and to describe Life Skills)•Individual teachers increase their creativity capacity (89 % of the teachers involved are able to select those methods for training Life Skills to students)•Students increase Life Skills development of students in VET (73 % of students involved are satisfied with LS-training while 58 % of these students express that this has been effective)Another output is:•To validate various methods and techniques in Creative Teaching of Life Skills to students in VET. (see PR 3)The project has 3 Project Results (PR):PR 1:A publication with back ground, rationale, understanding, assessing and strategy for implementing of Life Skills Concept in VET.PR 2:A Self-Assessment instrument for assessing Life Skills for students in VET (Excel-file) consisting of a questionnaire, instrument data analysis (individual level and group level), guidelines for applying methodology and interpretation of outcomes.PR 3:A compendium with modules for Life-Skills-Development for students in VET.Results in all languages are on www.cl4l.eu./documents.
