ReEngineering BUsIness under cLimaTe crisis

<< Background >>The Paris Agreement aims to substantially reduce carbon emissions, thus, limiting the global temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels in this century, but at the current rate the world is set to fall short of this milestone. According to the European Green Deal action plan, the production and use of energy across economic sectors account for more than 75% of the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions. Therefore, there is a need for businesses to provide services or products with less harmful influence on the climate; respond to a changing policy, regulatory, and market environment; and provide new services and products. HEIs should respond to this need in a variety of ways, but there are several obstacles to address climate change in the curriculum. The interdisciplinarity of the issue poses challenges that REBUILT consortium has addressed in the project. Furthermore, to address the need to enable a profound change in peoples’ behaviour and skills, starting in the education systems and institutions as catalysts, the REBUILT project has developed flexible learning pathways and modular courses on firm adaptation to climate change and has built the competence framework required for dealing with this challenge. << Objectives >>The overall objective of the REBUILT project has been to contribute towards achieving an urgent environmental turning point, by creating the REBUILT learning programme (Result 1), the REBUILT MOOC (Result 2) and the REBUILT low carbon transition action plan for businesses (Result 3).The specific objectives of the REBUILT project are:- Develop skills strategy and a low carbon transition action plan to assist businesses to adapt to climate and environmental change. - Provide necessary interdisciplinary skills relating to climate and environmental change. - Develop stand-alone courses on how businesses can combat climate emergency and transform operations. - Promote lifelong learning by facilitating take-up, validation, and recognition of the short learning courses - Raise awareness about environmental and climate-change challenges. - Reflect on opportunities for collaboration as a key part in doing business in the climate emergency. - Gather partnerships of European HEIs, research and business entities. - Support the HE sectors in becoming more inter-connected, innovative, inclusive, and digital. - Help HEIs to address societal challenges, such as climate change. - Contribute to the implementation of the UN SDGs.<< Implementation >>The following activities have been implemented:R1: REBUILT LEARNING PROGRAMME. The content developed for the learning programme is built upon the European approach to micro-credentials and is engaging and interactive, and the four modules represent the learners’ journey from understanding the climate system → addressing the impact of climate change → experiencing the future → shaping the future by using various tools as a response to climate change - and can be either followed stand-alone or complemented with other forms of teaching. R2: REBUILT ONLINE CAMPUS. The online campus was developed and consists of: The REBUILT online courses and online assessment - The REBUILT virtual library / digital collection of resources - The REBUILT forum for discussions/thematic workshops – Pilot testing of the online courses and course roll-out.R3: REBUILT LOW CARBON TRANSITION ACTION PLAN FOR BUSINESSES. The REBUILT low carbon transition action plan for businesses has been developed and best practice with practical insights from real-world examples of successful low carbon initiatives has been collected for the online good practice database, Implementation of additional material and activities: - Project Management Handbook and Documents - Consortium agreements - Quality Assurance Plan - Monitoring & Evaluation Plan - Stakeholder Analysis - Dissemination Plan - Portfolio of Dissemination material - Project website translated in all partner languages - Social media platforms: LinkedIn and Facebook - Newsletters: six newsletters have been developed and sent to identified stakeholders to contribute to project dissemination in all partners’ languages - Policy briefs and recommendations: Two policy briefs and one policy recommendation have been created and widely disseminated among key stakeholders and policy makers - Press releases and media presence – Presence in EU platforms (EPALE) - Multiplier events: Six national virtual events and one closing conference - Exploitation Plan - Promotional video - Memorandum of Understanding - IPR and commercialization agreement - Reports: Progress Reports, Final Report, Quality Assurance and Evaluation Reports, Dissemination Reports. Where necessary and relevant, outputs have been translated into all six partner languages.<< Results >>The output and results of the REBUILT project are as follows:Target group-related outcome:HEIs: Development of tools (MOOC and online campus) to support lifelong learning opportunities and “green” their curricula – development of online learning material to reach students everywhere – enriched digital resources and capacities – strengthened collaboration with the business community. HE students: Added specific knowledge about green transition and climate and environmental changes in their curricula with the possibility to obtain appropriate certification and recognition – knowledge of how to support a green business/social responsibility profile.Professionals: Development of learning material to help understand the business implications of climate change, identify opportunities for innovation, and enhance their competitive advantage.Policymakers: Knowledge of how to address the climate crisis from a systemic perspective.General public: Information about environmental and climate-change challenges - information about carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities and the ability - support motivation to reduce emissions on an individual and professional basis.The outcomes have been achieved through the successful implementation of the REBUILT activities and the delivery of the following project results: Result 1- REBUILT LEARNING PROGRAMME which has been carefully designed using learning outcomes, quality assured against transparent standards in line with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG), and delivered online in an engaging, interactive way. Where necessary and relevant, outputs have been translated into all six partner languages.All partners will actively apply the project outcomes and results in their daily practices after termination of the project, according to the the mandate of the project to secure its long-term sustainability and application of all results for at least five years.As part of the output, it has been secured that the REBUILT website, which gives access to all project’s public results, and the Online Campus including the MOOC will be online and available for the public for at least three years after expiration of the project period.
