Seniors for Change

<< Background >>We applied for this project because the visible effects of climate change require collective action. However, senior citizens represent a resource that is still underutilised. Although they are often perceived as less committed to ecological transition, they have valuable experience in repairing, reusing and reducing waste, which has long been part of their daily practices. Our project therefore responds to two main needs: on the one hand, to involve senior citizens (aged 60 and over, who will make up nearly a third of the EU population by 2050) more in the fight against climate change by promoting their knowledge and giving them the means to pass it on to younger generations. On the other hand, it aims to strengthen their digital skills by teaching them how to film (video has now established itself as the best way to convey ideas) and share their sustainable practices via social media. By enabling senior citizens to use modern technologies, the project transfers their knowledge of sustainability to other generations while empowering them to play their part in building a greener digital Europe.<< Objectives >>The project's objectives were to empower senior citizens to contribute to the fight against climate change, particularly through social media and the sharing of DIY projects. The project aims to demonstrate the role of senior citizens in building a greener and more sustainable Europe, to promote existing eco-friendly practices already mastered by senior citizens, and to pass on these practices to other generations via social media. Finally, the project is part of efforts to bridge the digital divide between generations.<< Implementation >>The main activities of the project were as follows:- Collection of best practices and organisation of discussion groups in each of the five partner countries, followed by the production of national and transnational reports;- Creation of a training manual based on the DIY activities collected, best practices and an analysis of the state of the art;- Organisation of training sessions with the participation of senior citizens in each of the five partner countries in order to put the developed content into practice, followed by the production of national and transnational reports to assist in the future implementation of these training courses in other countries and with other target audiences;- Creation of an e-learning platform bringing together all the available results, resources and information.- Organisation of dissemination activities and multiplier events to promote our project in the five partner countries and more broadly across Europe.<< Results >>Our results and conclusions:- Five national reports and a final report presenting the methodology and conclusions of the focus groups;- A booklet of best practices available in all project languages;- A training manual presenting the role of DIY and social networks in the fight against climate change (including at least 12 hours of educational content);- An e-learning platform that digitises the manual and other resources and enables older people to acquire ICT and DIY skills;- 58 older people trained in videography and social media;- 27 DIY videos published on our platform;- 5 national reports and a final report presenting the methodology for implementing the Seniors4Change training programme, an assessment of the results of our training activities and recommendations for future trainers who would like to organise this training again, possibly with other audiences and in other countries.- A Booklet summarising the project, for distribution to the target audiences;- Numerous dissemination activities, including multiplier events in 5 partner countries.
