<< Background >>This project aimed to upgrade global education through the use of debate methodology, transdisciplinarity, and digital education. The results of this project provided teachers with the training, methodological framework, implementation toolkit, and digital tools necessary to carry out global education, thereby positively impacting students' lives. The proposed diverse partnership consisted of schools, universities, digital education specialists, global education experts, and debate-focused organisations. Teachers face increasingly difficult challenges in preparing students to become global and European citizens. They need support in the forms of methodologies and tools to help them navigate complex contemporary issues, such as climate change and the Covid-19 crisis, which involve multiple school subject areas and require interactive methods to engage students. European policymakers had, in principle, recognized global education as instrumental for instilling the importance of democratic values, justice, solidarity, and inclusion in young people. In recent years, young people have been advocating and protesting for a greener, sustainable future, women’s rights, and an end to discrimination, demonstrating that issues encompassed b<< Objectives >>The main goal of this project was to support effective education for contemporary problems based on four key elements:1. Global education: This element emphasized global awareness, citizenship, responsibility, and green transformation. It encouraged students to consider multiple perspectives and the ethical implications of power and privilege, fostering responsible action. 2.Transdisciplinarity: This element focused on connecting learning across subjects and diverse perspectives. It aimed to prevent overspecialization, enabling students to tackle multifaceted problems and cultivate essential 21st-century intellectual skills. 3. Speech and Debate methodology: This interactive methodology combined independent research, teamwork, critical thinking, argument building, public speaking, and presentation skills. It engaged young people in political and contemporary issues, equipping them to develop viable policy solutions. 4. Digital education: Recognizing the importance of digital approaches, this element highlighted digital education as an asset. It emphasized its potential to overcome geographical and financial barriers, offering varied learning structures to accommodate different learning styles.<< Implementation >>The activities implemented under this project were aimed at producing high-quality results. The development of each result was overseen by a designated Result Manager. Result Managers worked with project staff and a group of 52 secondary-level teachers in different subject areas from Italy, Slovenia, The Netherlands, and the Czech Republic to:- Develop project materials- Implement those materials in 52 classrooms- Provide and collect feedback on implementation- Shape and adapt project results according to teacher and student needsThis process helped ensure the quality and applicability of project results in different local and national contexts, paving the way for better education outcomes and the use of project results across Europe. The two staff training events organised served the same purpose. In addition to training the participants to use the developed methodology, extensive feedback was collected to ensure the project’s results were responsive to the needs of their target group. The multiplier events in Italy, Slovenia, The Netherlands, and the Czech Republic served two purposes: introducing interested education professionals to project results and providing them with the opportunity to test and see them in action through sample classes.<< Results >>We have produced project results that are appealing and accessible to teachers across various subject areas, including political science, history, philosophy, geography, economics, ethics, environmental science, biology, STEM, culture studies, and literature.R1: TRAINING MODULES FOR TEACHERS AND TRAINERSOur project asked teachers to approach students from a novel, global, and transdisciplinary perspective to successfully address complex issues. This project result serves as:- A self-learning guide for teachers and other educators- A guide for training teacher trainers- A guide for direct training of teachers and other school staffR1 functions as a tool for continuous professional development, bridging the gap between the still very discipline-oriented teacher education and the transdisciplinary needs of today’s students. The topics covered include globalisation, wealth, and poverty; sustainability and climate; global health; identity, culture, religion, and border crossings; and noise, news, and neutrality.R2: METHODOLOGICAL MANUALR2 is a methodological framework for the implementation of the pedagogical strategy and topics developed under R1. While R1 represents training materials for teachers, R2 focuses on their classrooms. R2 provides teachers with structured, step-by-step practical guidance and tools, leading them through the process of implementing the developed pedagogical strategy in both curricular and extra-curricular subjects and activities. This includes 10 lesson plans per topic with suggestions for use in a selection of relevant subjects, emphasising the transdisciplinary nature of complex contemporary problems, and 10 time-constricted modular exercises per topic which can be incorporated into other lesson plans.R3: TOOLKIT FOR TEACHERS AND STUDENTSR3 represents a collection of case studies of contemporary issues related to the five topics covered by R1 and R2 (globalisation, wealth, and poverty; sustainability and climate; global health; identity, culture, religion, and border crossings; noise, news, and neutrality). These case studies highlight and illustrate the interconnections between these areas and emphasise the necessity of transdisciplinary thinking about global issues. Building on debate methodology and specifically the models of motion analysis, this element explores several different models and strategies for analysing complex, multifaceted issues. The toolkit includes generalised structures and prompts that can be applied to different problems, providing teachers and students with blueprints for critical analysis that consider different perspectives, stakeholders, and value prioritisation.R4: E-LEARNING PLATFORMTo ensure that project-developed content is readily available and maximally inclusive, we created an e-learning platform that transforms our content into a flowing e-learning tool with specific individualised learning plans for users. An attractive web environment significantly increases the impact and transferability potential of this project's results, making it more likely for organisations outside of our network to engage with the developed content. The website is developed as open-source and easily translatable content, allowing all actors within the EU to adapt the developed content to their national needs. User-friendliness and interactivity are the main reasons for the continual and broad use of materials available online.
