<< Background >>The Minding Media project aims to enhance children's digital competences by addressing the evolving challenges of media consumption in our increasingly digitized society. Targeting Generation Alpha, born after 2010, the project recognizes their heightened exposure to digital marketing content, emphasizing the need for improved cognitive competences and defenses. Despite the integration of digital skills into curricula, there's a noticeable gap in emphasizing media literacy, a crucial aspect for responsible navigation of the digital landscape. The European Framework for the Digital Competence of Educators (DigCompEdu) underscores the pivotal role of educators in fostering learners' digital competences, including information and media literacy. Minding Media bridges this educational gap by integrating comprehensive media literacy programs. It aims to teach students how to discern reliable sources, critically analyze information, and understand the impact of media.Focusing on ages 8 to 12, a pivotal stage in understanding persuasive intent in commercial messages, the project recognizes that while children can evaluate message content, the enjoyment of advertisements often diminishes motivation for employing resistance strategies. << Objectives >>The MINDING MEDIA project cultivates critical advertising literacy skills in children through interactive media literacy education (MLE) resources:1. Video Training Library: Using gamification, a digitized interactive media and advertising literacy video training library is created for wide dissemination.2. Minecraft World: Leveraging Minecraft, the MINDING MEDIA Education world extends media and advertising literacy through problem-based learning.3. Teaching Toolkit: A MINDING MEDIA Teaching Toolkit equips teachers for fostering media and advertising literacy in pupils aged 8-12.These resources introduce media literacy effectively, promoting advertising literacy, cognitive defenses against messages, and resilience to fake news. The approach addresses teacher challenges in staying updated on applications and stealth marketing. Utilising innovative methods, it emphasizes participative learning and critical thinking. Positive reinforcement, including the Minding Media Monster mascot, badges, certificates, and engaging materials, incentivizes children's progress. Introducing effective MLE resources, the project contributes significantly to advancing digital competences in schools, tackling evolving media consumption challenges<< Implementation >>The project comprised three key educational resources (results) and horizontal activities for successful execution: project management, impact evaluation, promotion, and sustainability.Project Management (Led by ATU):-Developed a project management handbook, detailed work plan, and Gantt Chart.-Established banking and payment arrangements.-Prepared partner agreements, including an IPR agreement.-Managed planning and logistics for in-person TPM meetings.-Supported and administered transnational partner meetings.-Conducted regular monthly meetings and additional sessions as needed.-Monitored progress and prepared interim and final reports.Quality, Impact Evaluation (Led by EUEI):-Held an impact+ workshop during the first in-person TPM.-Ensured consistent evaluation using quantitative and qualitative indicators.-Developed quarterly and final reports.Promotion and Dissemination (Led by ATU):-Developed a Promotion Strategy, including a strong brand identity and the Minding Media Monster mascot.-Created social media accounts, newsletters, and an interactive website.-Coordinated guest lectures, conference presentations, and PR pieces to promote key achievements.LTTA (Learning Teaching Training Activity):-Hosted a 3-day LTTA at ATU in September 2024, involving 24 teachers from Ireland, Finland, and Serbia (see LTTA folder)Multiplier Events:Conducted four launch events in October 2024 in Ireland, Finland, Serbia, and the Netherlands, as documented in the Multiplier Events folder.<< Results >>The project focused on three key educational resources and horizontal activities for successful execution:R1: Minding Media Video Training Library:-Series of 8 interactive, 10-minute training videos.-4 for children aged 8-10 and 4 for children aged 10-12.-Each video builds on previous concepts, featuring quizzes for interactivity.-Rewards, including badges, earned upon video completion.R2: Minding Media Minecraft World:-Dedicated Minecraft world for media and advertising literacy.-Educational challenges develop competences, creating cognitive defenses and fake news resilienceR3: Minding Media Teaching Toolkit:-Handbook detailing advertising literacy concepts.-Overview of video training library and Minecraft world.-8 step-by-step lesson plans for teachers.-Accompanying slides for easy classroom use.Additional Outcomes:-12 teachers tested R1 and R2 with approximately 240 children.-24 teachers commenced testing R3, with 16 completing this activity.-24 teachers from Ireland, Finland, and Serbia participated in a 3-day Learning Teaching Training Activity.-207 attended in-person Multiplier events in 4 countries.Project Management and Dissemination Documents:-Intellectual Property Release Agreement-Project Management Handbook-Evaluation and Quality Strategy-Communications Plan-Logos-Website design
