Here we create the future!

<< Background >>We launched our “Here We Create the Future” Weekendschool project to address the lack of extracurricular opportunities, role models, and support for young people in underserved communities across Europe. In both rural and urban areas, many youths struggled with low motivation, limited social inclusion, and uncertain futures. The idea was to create locally adapted weekend schools offering regular, inspiring activities that build confidence, resilience, and skills.Our partners shared a belief in the power of non-formal education and community involvement. They also recognized the need for a structured, transferable model supported by practical tools. The Erasmus+ programme provided the platform to turn this vision into action through transnational cooperation.Our project met both social and institutional needs: it empowered youth while enabling NGOs, schools, and municipalities to collaborate, learn from each other, and build sustainable solutions for inclusion, education, and civic engagement.<< Objectives >>The core ambition of this project was to design, test, and promote an inclusive weekend school model that could truly make a difference across diverse European settings. And we succeeded! By launching five inspiring weekend schools: two in Spain, one in Italy, and two more in Türkiye! These initiatives brought new energy to local communities and gave hundreds of young people access to enriching, hands-on learning outside regular school hours.Our goal was to support the personal growth, motivation, and social inclusion of youth, especially those facing disadvantage. Through creative, future-focused experiences, we helped young participants uncover their talents, gain confidence, and see new possibilities.At the same time, we wanted to empower educators, youth workers, and institutions with concrete tools and training to implement this model themselves. The cross-border exchange of ideas and practices not only strengthened our own work but sparked fresh thinking in non-formal education and built a lasting, collaborative network for youth engagement.In the end, the project was all about impact: creating more inclusive and supportive learning environments and giving young people the power and inspiration to shape their own futures.<< Implementation >>Our project brought together vibrant local action and dynamic international collaboration. Each partner established a weekend school tailored to their unique context, offering engaging sessions for youth aged 10 to 16. These weren’t just classes. They were creative, future-focused experiences covering resilience, language, civic engagement, and career exploration. Young people and volunteers were actively involved in shaping and delivering the sessions, making them truly theirs. We backed this up with three inspiring international training events. Teachers and trainers joined an intensive, hands-on course in the Netherlands, where they explored the weekend school model and tested draft learning materials. Pupils participated in two unforgettable exchanges in Italy and Spain, building intercultural friendships and helping to shape our language games through real-time testing. To keep everything on track and growing, we held six transnational partner meetings and developed four key outputs, widely shared across Europe.NOTE: The max. total size of annexes allowed was limited to 100MB, therefore we could add only: the 6 TNM minutes, 6 TNM attendance lists, 3 LTTA attendance lists, ME attendance lists, and PR1 + PR3.<< Results >>Alongside opening and running 5 new Weekend Schools across Europe, we produced four main outputs. The Two Weekendschool Handbooks offer a step-by-step guide for setting up (PR1a) and running a weekend school (PR1b), based on partner experiences. The Self Scan Tool helps organizations assess their readiness and areas for development. The Language Games Portfolio includes over 20 inclusive activities to support language learning and group connection. All outputs are available in our 4 partner languages and in English and are all hosted on the project website: www.weekendschool.euLocally, each partner established a new weekend school, reaching over 300 youths. These activities improved student confidence and engagement. The training week for teachers and two pupil exchanges strengthened skills and intercultural understanding.The website serves as a central hub for materials and promotion. Multiplier events in each country engaged educators, NGOs, and policy actors, increasing visibility and commitment to future use.
