Empower adult educators to support digital social inclusion

<< Background >>The DigIN project was created to address the COVID-19-exacerbated digital divide, especially among adult learners and educators. The pandemic brought into sharp focus critical gaps in digital literacy and the need for improvement in digital skills and infrastructure in adult education. Three core needs were addressed:•Improve teachers' digital competencies. Most Adult educators weren't ready for digital learning and required new competencies, especially in the area of knowledge of digital pedagogy and flexibility in approaches to teaching both online and blended.•Increase Adults' Access to Digital Learning: Digitally low-skilled adults have been facing various barriers to access to services, information, and social connections. Structured opportunities for the development of digital literacy are needed so that adults can empower themselves as active users of technology.•Improve Digital Transformation of Adult Education Organizations: The digital strategies, leadership, and online training capacities were quite a challenge for the organizations, therefore they needed holistic solutions to improve their digital competencies.<< Objectives >>The purpose of the DigIN project was to increase the capacity of educators and adult education organisations to support adults in becoming active users of technology with a view of the enhanced digital transformation brought about by COVID-19. General Objectives:•Widening Educators' Competences: Improve educators' and staff competencies in order to develop digitally competent and confident trainers, in line with the Digital Education Action Plan 2021-2027.•Develop a Digital Education Ecosystem: Build organisational capacity and readiness for effective digital education transitions in line with Erasmus+ 2022 cooperation partnership priorities.•Nurture a Digitally Inclusive Environment: Nurture digital inclusion at a transnational level through the engagement of all citizens and generations in supporting Erasmus+ priorities in adult education and EU targets for lifelong learning participation.Specific: The project targeted improving the digital skills of 40 educators, providing digital learning opportunities for 150 adults, and supporting digital transformation in 20 organisations, thus fostering inclusion and diversity.<< Implementation >>WP 1: Project Management-Managing the project with clear structures and quality assurance.-Developing risk and financial management plans and hosting transnational meetings.-Assign tasks, execute assignments, track progress, and ensure timely delivery of deliverables.WP2: Digital Toolkit Development-Researching and identifying best practices in digital pedagogy.-Map competence for digital facilitators and curate digital tools.-Designing guidelines for engaging digital learning experiences.-TPM1WP 3: Web Application Development-Design a web app to assess digital skills using DigComp frameworks.-Develop interactive modules, personalised feedback, and educator guidelines.-TPM2 and TPM3WP4: Development of Education Programmes-Develop an e-platform with learning materials, tutorials, and guidance for adult learners.-Pilot the programme with learners and trainers and revisit it based on their feedback.Work Package 5: Dissemination-Multiplier events, workshops, and webinars-All activities implemented during the project's life were disseminated face-to-face, hybrid and online- The dissemination tools included social media, newsletters, conferences, project websites, newspapers, ResearchGate, EPALE, and Zenodo<< Results >>Outputs:- Digital Involvement and Skills Development Toolkit: A resource for educators featuring a competence map, best practices, and guidance for integrating digital teaching methods into adult education.- Web App for Digital Skills Assessment: An interactive tool enabling adults to assess their digital competencies, receive personalised feedback, and follow tailored learning pathways.- DigIN Multi-Pack Educational Program: A comprehensive program including an e-platform, e-courses, video tutorials, and materials covering DigComp areas, offering structured digital skill development.- Podcast Series: Journey to Digital Education, providing insights into digital education practices.- Project Website: A hub for accessing project outputs, including the web app, educational platform, and resources for educators and learners.Outcomes:-Improved Educator Skills: Strengthened educator confidence and competence in using digital tools for teaching.-Organizational Capacity Strengthened: Empowered adult education organisations with innovative tools and practices for delivering quality digital education.-Increased awareness: Outreach activities have sensitised the public at large to the state of play in terms of digital inclusion.
