SUSTAIN: Sustaining the Sustainable Development Goals

<< Background >>We applied for the SUSTAIN project because we saw an urgent need to strengthen youth’s knowledge, skills and engagement with the SDGs. Despite the commitments made under the UN 2030 Agenda, recent challenges like the COVID and the war in Ukraine have slowed progress, leaving many young people facing uncertainty, unemployment and reduced opportunities for participation.In CZ and SP, youth workers and youngsters expressed a lack of knowledge about the SDGs and limited access to innovative learning tools that could empower them to take meaningful action in their communities. These needs were identified through the partners’ direct experience working with local youth and professionals, who regularly highlighted these gaps in awareness and resources. We also identified significant barriers, particularly for those living in rural or disadvantaged areas, including poor connectivity, limited training opportunities and social discrimination.With this project, we aimed to respond to these needs by creating accessible and engaging digital learning materials, while providing spaces for youth workers and young learners to exchange ideas, develop critical thinking and become active contributors to sustainable development in the EU & beyond.<< Objectives >>With the SUSTAIN project, we wanted to give young people and youth workers the tools, knowledge, and motivation to actively contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals in their daily lives and communities. Our objectives were threefold:-Increase understanding of the SDGs and related topics.We aimed to provide a deeper and more practical vision of the SDGs, helping participants understand how these goals connect to real challenges in Europe and their own communities.-Create innovative learning materials for youth workers and young learners.We developed interactive and engaging resources, such as Digital Breakouts and WebQuests, to make learning about the SDGs accessible, dynamic, and inspiring. These tools were designed not only to transfer knowledge but also to encourage problem-solving, creativity and teamwork.-Empower youth communities to take action.By combining learning activities, participatory visits, and dissemination campaigns, we wanted to strengthen young people’s sense of responsibility and equip them to become active agents of change. The goal was for them to gain the skills, confidence, and resources needed to lead initiatives that address social and environmental challenges in line with the SDGs.<< Implementation >>We carried out a set of complementary activities that combined mobility, training, creation of resources and dissemination:Participatory Visit Czechia (9–11 April 2024)Exchange of best practices and tools on SDGs to inspire the design of Digital Breakouts.Development of 17 Digital Breakouts & WebQuests (Sept 2023–Feb 2025):In EN, ES and CZ, at 3 difficulty levels, including explanations and interactive challenges.Training Course Spain (27 Oct–3 Nov 2023)Testing draft Breakout prototypes, learning about SDGs, youth engagement and Erasmus+ opportunities.Conferences in CZ & ES (April-May 2025)Shared results with youth workers and youth communities.Internal Workshops (Dec 2024–June 2025)Shared results and knowledge with staff, volunteers and collaborators.Consultation Period (May–June 2025)Guidance to stakeholders, for the application of the project resources.Dissemination (Aug 2023–June 2025)Newsletters, awareness videos, posters, success stories and social media posts.<< Results >>The project produced innovative results and lasting impact. Its major resources are uploaded to the Erasmus+ Project Results Platform:17 SDG Digital Breakouts:Interactive rooms with digital locks, adapted to priority levels (5 advanced, 7 intermediate, 5 easy).WebQuests in EN, ES, and CZ:Complementary materials offering structured learning paths for each SDG.Supporting Documents:Infopacks, reports, memory documents, evaluations and summary videos from both the Czech visit and Spanish training.Dissemination Materials:Six multilingual newsletters, awareness videos, success stories, posters, and the project website.Events:Conferences, internal workshops and consultation sessions, reaching youth workers, youth, staff, volunteers and stakeholders.Impact:Empowered young people with digital, leadership and teamwork skills; created a transnational network of youth workers ready to act for the 2030 Agenda.In addition to the formal outputs uploaded to the EPRP, supplementary materials such as event photos, press coverage and additional learning tools were shared publicly through the project website and social media, and included as annexes or external links in this report to support transparency and replicability.
