Clean Air Now for a Sharp Future

"<< Background >>We applied for the KA220 project ""Clear Air for a Sharp Future"" due to a fundamental strategic necessity: to align our institution with the imperatives of the ecological transition and to modernize our teaching methodologies. Our main motivation is to ensure that teachers have innovative tools and that students become active citizens, capable of addressing local environmental problems with a global and critical perspective. The ""Clear Air for a Sharp Future"" project addresses three crucial needs within the educational and social spheres:1. Methodological and Curricular Need: There is a gap in the practical and genuine integration of environmental education into non-scientific subjects.2. Citizen Scientific Competence Need: The project addresses the necessity of transforming students from mere consumers of information into producers of knowledge.3. Collaboration and Innovation Need: The project resolves the necessity of exchanging best practices among countries with different environmental realities. This allows us to compare data, methodologies, and educational solutions, ensuring that the resources developed are robust, transferable, and of high quality.<< Objectives >>The motivations for undertaking this Cooperation Partnership project (KA220) are multiple, bringing benefits at the educational, social, and personal levels:Educational Motivation•Pedagogical Innovation: To introduce active, transnational methodologies, thereby making education more relevant and practical.•Internationalization: To enhance the European and international dimension of the participating educational institutions, fostering the exchange of best practices in environmental education among countries (Spain, Germany, Portugal, Italy, etc.).Social Motivation / Impact•Fostering Collaboration: To motivate students, teachers, and families to collaborate and work together on specific practical environmental issues.•Active Citizenship: To develop a sense of responsibility and active citizenship in students regarding their immediate environment.Personal/Professional Motivation•Teacher Professional Development: To provide professional development opportunities for teachers through mobility and international collaborative work.<< Implementation >>The project developed a wide range of activities structured into four main work packages. It began with WP2 (Learning about us!), which focused on initial coordination (six transnational/virtual meetings) and the baseline assessment of teachers, families, and school leaders. WP3 (Improving ourselves) focused on mobility and practical development, including Job Shadowing and Training Events in Portugal and Italy, along with the creation of learning materials through virtual working groups. Subsequently, WP4 (Quality Practices) was dedicated to creating key quality tools, such as the ""School Environmental Quality Seal"" and a ""Good Practice Guide."" Finally, WP5 (Promoting) culminated in the dissemination of results through the organization of four Multiplier Events at the national level (Spain, Portugal, Germany, and Italy), including a final transnational meeting in Spain.<< Results >>The project has generated tangible results focused on pedagogical innovation and sustainability, materialized in intellectual and methodological products. These outcomes include the creation of a Teacher Training Guide and Transdisciplinary Didactic Modules to integrate the climate emergency into the curriculum, directly supporting educators. Furthermore, management and recognition tools have been designed, such as an Environmental Health Assessment for Schools, a Good Practice Guide, and an Environmental Quality School Seal, establishing a standardized protocol for improving and validating schools' commitment to sustainability.Regarding direct impact, the project has achieved significant competency development among students, fostering Scientific and Sustainable Citizen Competence. This practical approach has notably improved STEAM skills and promoted a critical environmental awareness that drives changes toward sustainable consumption habits. At the cooperation level, a Solid Cooperation Network has been established for the exchange of best practices among European partners, ensuring that all resources are easily adaptable."
