Tous Eco-Responsables Respectueux de l’Environnement

<< Background >>Having noted the lack of interest of our students in environmental issues, and especially in Mayotte, we wanted to encourage eco-responsible behaviour around concrete activities.First, we made students aware of the proliferation of plastic waste in nature and of the disastrous consequences entailed. Then, we encouraged the students to reduce their waste by changing their daily behaviour.By researching this subject, the participants, with the support of the teaching teams of the two schools, developed presentations in order to raise awareness among students who are less ecologically committed and participated in the activities described below. With this in mind, the students highlighted the cause and effect relationships and the harmful consequences of certain habits for the environment. Having established a precise diagnosis on site, they implemented effective measures to combat the proliferation of litter. The objective being both to transmit knowledge on this subject but also to raise awareness among young people to induce a change in behavior towards the environment.<< Objectives >>The objective was both to transmit knowledge about the environment but also to raise awareness among young people to induce a change in behaviour towards their environment. In concrete terms, this means: no longer throwing waste into nature, reducing plastic consumption, recycling and reusing packaging and promoting the use of containers either of natural origin or reusable. Thanks to a diagnosis of the proliferation of litter and a reflection on the measures to be taken, we have put in place suitable activities to raise students' awareness of the problem of waste and encourage eco-responsible behavior.<< Implementation >>The activities were carried out either within class or cross-class groups in the two establishments. In addition, we relied on the student eco-delegates in Mayotte and the student ambassadors of the European Union in Germany. Several flagship activities were carried out during the project:Art EcoMobility to GermanyLet's save our forest!Mobility to MayotteLet's save our lagoon!Binational exchangesPreparatory meetingSave the environment with 3 RsIntra- and inter-school communicationCreation of an ecological digital mementoRecycling and upcycling<< Results >>Making objects from either natural materials or “waste” intended for disposal (recycling/upcycling)Manufacturing of objects based on traditional local techniques.Planting mangrove trees to consolidate the Bandrélé mangrove (Mayotte).Planting young shoots of trees in a forest attacked by a parasite: the bark beetle (Hartz forest in Germany)Discussions on environmental issues in English via a social network.Creation of illustrations based on the model of the Green Album, subject of an exhibition.Exchange forum (good practices and awareness)Creation of a digital book.Cleaning the mangrove in Mayotte and the forest adjacent to the Gymnasium.Writing articles on various experiences.Another result of the project lies in the impetus it gave to the European Erasmus + programme in Mayotte. Indeed, Ms. Emo, director of the Rector's office during the project, followed our work with interest. Since the start of this school year, a service dedicated to Erasmus within the Mayotte rectorate has been created under the direction of Ms. Emo. We can say that our work has initiated a new dynamic.
