GREENWOOD - Green Resourceful Education and Empowerment in Nature and Wood

<< Background >>The wood industry must become more sustainable and lower CO₂ emissions, but many small businesses lack practical training that balances ecological and economic needs. The GREENWOOD project addresses this by offering user-friendly, application-focused materials on sustainability and CO₂ accounting for wood sector professionals and trainees. This supports demands for climate skills from businesses, educators, and regulations, helping sustain the sector’s competitiveness and meet European climate goals. << Objectives >>The GREENWOOD project developed practical training resources to help the wood industry shift toward sustainable production. We focused on teaching professionals and trainees how to calculate CO₂ footprints for wood products and adopt resource-efficient practices. Our easy-to-use digital materials and a CO₂ accounting guide support companies in implementing climate strategies. The project also promotes sustainability awareness and collaboration among businesses, educators, and associations, while strengthening European cooperation and standards in vocational wood processing education—all to support both industry competitiveness and EU climate goals. << Implementation >>As part of the GREENWOOD project, we developed practical training materials on sustainability and CO₂ accounting for the wood industry in collaboration with partners, converting them to digital formats for wider access. We also created a guide for CO₂ accounting of wood products, tested its usability through workshops and surveys, and incorporated feedback. Online meetings ensured coordination, while results were shared via Erasmus+, trade articles, and social media. All activities and outcomes were documented to fulfil Erasmus+ requirements and support project sustainability. << Results >>The GREENWOOD project achieved several results supporting sustainability in the wood industry. It developed comprehensive training materials on CO₂ accounting and sustainable production, available in print and digital formats, including an online course. Key outputs include a practical guide for CO₂ accounting, checklists, and calculation tools. Workshops and pilot sessions validated these resources, with feedback incorporated into final versions. Project outcomes were published on the Erasmus+ platform and shared via trade articles and social media. The project also enhanced European cooperation in vocational education and expanded partner networks.
