Save Life: Reorganizing Basic/Advanced Life Support Training Through the Use of Innovative Digital Materials

<< Background >>SaveLife was initiated to address significant disparities in Basic and Advanced Life Support (B/ALS) training across Europe, recognizing that uniform, accessible life-saving education is critical for improving emergency survival rates. The project directly responded to these needs by developing a comprehensive e-learning platform integrated into a dedicated website with a fully functional Learning Management System. In close collaboration with hospitals and medical professionals, an action plan was established that resulted in the development of 4 Basic and 8 Advanced training modules, 2 comprehensive e-books, one is for BLS, other is for ALS (translated into all partner languages), and an exclusive English guidebook for global open-access publication. These outputs ensure continuous access to updated, evidence-based training and a built-in certification system, thereby standardizing high-quality emergency care across Europe. The SaveLife initiative has enhanced professional development in emergency medicine, improved patient outcomes, and promoted equitable access to essential life-saving skills.<< Objectives >>The objective of the SaveLife project was to improve the quality of emergency medical care across Europe by standardizing Basic and Advanced Life Support (B/ALS) training. Innovative Learning Solutions: SaveLife utilized advanced digital tools, including interactive videos, simulations, and assessments, to optimize learning outcomes for healthcare professionals.4. Continuous Professional Development: The platform ensured healthcare professionals had continuous access to up-to-date training, reflecting the latest research and techniques in emergency care.5. Collaboration and Resource Sharing: The project established a collaborative network among healthcare institutions and educational bodies across Europe, fostering the exchange of best practices to enhance emergency medical services.<< Implementation >>The SaveLife project implemented a modernized B/ALS curriculum and a mobile-compatible Learning Management System (LMS) featuring interactive modules with interactive video tutorials, e-books, and assessments. The LMS underwent rigorous pilot testing during Learning, Teaching, and Training (LTT) sessions, where healthcare professionals provided valuable feedback to refine both the curriculum and system functionalities. Extensive multiplier events and training workshops were organized across partner countries to ensure effective staff training on the new systems. Four Transnational Project Meetings (TPMs) were held, including Kickoff in Türkiye, followed by meetings in Macedonia, Poland, and Greece, to discuss project progress, outputs, organizational matters, and dissemination activities. These meetings also served as a platform to assess the project's budget, management, and future steps. Additionally, local workshops through multiplier events were conducted to disseminate project outcomes and maximize the training's impact. The LMS also embedded an ongoing professional development framework to support continuous learning for healthcare professionals across Europe<< Results >>The SaveLife project resulted in several key outputs and achievements aimed at enhancing emergency medical care across Europe. A multilingual, mobile-compatible Learning Management System (LMS) was developed, hosting interactive video tutorials, e-books, and formative and summative assessments. Training modules and e-books for both Basic (4 modules) and Advanced (8 modules) Life Support were created, tested, and translated into multiple languages to ensure accessibility. The Learning, Teaching, and Training (LTT) event in Türkiye provided participant feedback to refine the LMS usability and training materials. Multiplier workshops in each partner country introduced the system and gathered insights for improvement. Eight 2D animation interactive videos were produced to enhance interactive learning, and twelve e-books were created to complement the training modules. A built-in certification program was integrated into the LMS to support continuous professional development. Storyboards and character designs were developed for video production, and local and online training sessions were conducted, incorporating feedback for system updates.
