<< Background >>The IGNITION project was initiated to address the urgent need for enhanced digital literacy and inclusion within European higher education institutions (HEIs) and their surrounding ecosystems. The COVID-19 pandemic accelerated digital transformation but also revealed critical disparities in digital skills among educators, students, life-long learners, and external stakeholders such as companies and self-employed professionals. These gaps threatened to widen inequalities and limit participation in education, innovation, and international collaboration. IGNITION responded by promoting a shared vision for digital literacy in higher education, advancing awareness and competence development, and supporting inclusive access to digital learning environments. The project aimed to empower HEIs as inclusive, digitally engaged ecosystems that foster international collaboration and innovation with diverse stakeholders. << Objectives >>IGNITION aimed to enhance digital literacy and inclusion across higher education by raising awareness and developing digital competences among teachers, students, staff, life-long learners, and external stakeholders. The project’s concrete objectives were to: develop a shared digital literacy agenda and framework; co-create an online self-assessment tool for educators; establish a transnational Teachers’ Community of Practice; launch the Digital Challenge and Innovation Learning Lab (D-CHILL); and design a practical toolkit to support engagement with external stakeholders, particularly small businesses and self-employed professionals. Through these objectives, IGNITION sought to strengthen higher education institutions as inclusive, digitally connected ecosystems, enhance international collaboration, and foster innovation by equipping all actors with the skills, tools, and networks needed to navigate and shape the digital transformation. << Implementation >>IGNITION carried out a coherent and interconnected set of activities structured around six Intellectual Outputs (IOs). Key activities included: collaborative research and consultation to co-create the Digital Literacy Agenda and Framework (IO1); the design, testing, and refinement of an online self-assessment tool and game-based workshop to raise digital awareness (IO2); the establishment and facilitation of a transnational Teacher Community of Practice, including thematic webinars and events (IO3); the design and piloting of the Digital Challenge and Innovation Learning Lab (D-CHILL), engaging students and stakeholders in international, challenge-based learning (IO4); the development of a stakeholder toolkit to support the inclusion of companies and self-employed professionals in digital learning ecosystems (IO5); and ongoing evaluation and impact monitoring activities (IO6). The consortium ensured consistent coordination and collaboration through monthly partner meetings, regular work package (IO) meetings, four Transnational Project Meetings, two Learning, Teaching and Training Activities (LTTAs), and three Multiplier Events. A broad communication and dissemination strategy was implemented, including the launch and active << Results >>IO1: A comprehensive Digital Literacy Agenda and a published White Paper, developed through collaborative research and institutional reflection among partnersIO2: An interactive Self-Assessment Tool and a Game-Based Workshop for educators, designed to raise awareness of digital competence and that was piloted during Learning, Teaching and Training ActivitiesIO3: A transnational Teacher Community of Practice, including thematic webinars focused on digital inclusion, artificial intelligence, and gamification in education.IO4: The Digital Challenge and Innovation Learning Lab (D-CHILL), a multidisciplinary and international program during which students developed innovative solutions for real-world regional challenges of external stakeholdersIO5: A stakeholder engagement toolkit, designed to enhance effective connections and to support collaboration between higher education institutions and external stakeholders such as companies and self-employed professionals within the digital education innovation ecosystemIO6: A project-wide evaluation framework based on the Erasmus+ Impact ToolWith these results, IGNITION advanced digital literacy and inclusion by increasing awareness and supporting competence development for all involved.
