Controverse – Innovative Vermittlung von Kompetenzen zum Debattieren und „Fair Streiten“ in Settings der Erwachsenenbildung

"<< Background >>Professionals in adult education, whether in general or vocational further education practice, increasingly come into situations where polarised positions on political, social or personal events trigger massive disturbances and negatively influence the group dynamics in such a way that a simple return to the actual learning topic is not possible. The aim is to develop a concept with practical approaches that make it possible to experience linguistic or non-verbal exchange with opinions and positions other than one's own, with the aim of changing consciousness towards more acceptance of being different, accepting and, if necessary, letting go of other opinions or even of other positions. The project aims to contribute to an integrated basic political education that is based on the life worlds of the participants, follows the concept of situated learning (learning on authentic occasions and situations in everyday course life) and uses experience-oriented methods to realise linguistic and non-verbal forms of dealing with different opinions.<< Objectives >>The project ""Controverse"" aimed at improving the competences of adult educators as the direct target group of the project, i.e. lecturers, teachers, social pedagogues as professionals in different measures of adult education. They were to be encouraged to take up and deal with situations in which black-and-white thinking and entrenched pigeonhole thinking can be observed among so-called low-skilled or educationally disadvantaged learners in a way that is appropriate to the situation and effective for learning, and to be equipped with correspondingly innovative theoretical-conceptual and - above all - practically applicable methods and instruments. << Implementation >>The project implementation was divided into 3 activity areas (A1, A2, A3), which were implemented during the project duration and within which subactivities were defined and distributed: Activity1 - Management, Lead P1 (bbb) Duration: 20 months (1 nov 2021 - 30 jun 2023) Main activities: development of project management guidelines (project manual), distribution of tasks among partners, continuous communication and cooperation process within the partnership; monitoring through internal progress reports; risk management; interim and final report to NA-BIBB; preparation and follow-up of 4 transnational project meetings (kick-off online, 3 meetings in presence) and other activities described in more detail in the application form. Activity2 - Development of project results, Lead: P1 (bbb) for PR1 (Controversy Experience Box ""Fair arguing""), P2 (BEST) for PR2 (Controversy Showcases ""Fair arguing""); the respective lead coordinated the process, but each partner was responsible for important sub-activities. Duration in total: 18 months (PR1 1 nov 2021 - 31 oct 2022, PR2 1 oct 2022 - 30 apr 2023). Activity3: - Dissemination/Dissemination (Sharing and Promoting), Lead P3 (LoPe). Duration: 20 months (1 Nov 2021 - 30 June 2022). << Results >>PR1: Controversy Experience Box ""Fair Arguing"": Textbook and Tools. The target group are adult educators who work in educational institutions with disadvantaged or low-skilled learners. PR2: Controverse Showcases ""Fair streiten"": illustrated case studies. The product Showcases presents case studies of methodical work from educational work on ""Fair arguing"" with target groups in the form of video. The showcases vividly demonstrate how it can be done by providing illustrated insights into methodical work and interactions. Each partner has developed a showcase in their national language and in English rsp. with subtitles in English. The format is video films embedded in an explanatory ppt. In addition, compiled showcase versions were created in German and English."
