Enhancing teaching and learning of sustainability with Educational Tabletop Escape Rooms (ETER)

<< Objectives >>The project will empower school teachers with an innovative GBL method relying on a new-defined item—i.e., Educational Tabletop Escape Rooms (ETERs)—to enhance learning on sustainability and curricular subjects. In detail, it will produce 1 online course and 1 handbook on GBL with ETERs, and 5 ready-to-use ETERs. Moreover, it will train 48 school teachers with ETERs, engage 1600+ students in learning with ETERs, and finally assess the efficacy of learning with ETERs in a research study.<< Implementation >>In 2 initial trainings, the partner organizations will share their expertise on instructional design, storytelling, and game design to define how to create engaging ETERs, and use them effectively in the classroom. They will then test the created training and learning materials (focused on sustainability) with teachers and students. The collected empirical data will be used to compare the efficacy of learning about sustainability with ETERs vs. traditional teaching methods in a research study.<< Results >>The project will contribute creating a new instructional item, i.e., Educational Tabletop Escape Rooms (ETERs). It will train online 1100 teachers on its use in the classroom, and provide them with 5 free downloadable engaging samples for immediate use. The project will disseminate its results online and in face-to-face events: through research articles, in live meetings at the partner schools, at academic conferences, and in many school fairs, gaming conventions, and cultural events in Europe.
