Social Values STEM from European Heritage

Our project started from the educational needs of the coordinating school: -the necessity to develop the students' social & civic awareness-the necessity to motivate students to further their study in STEM subjects-the necessity for students & teachers to develop their En skills -the necessity for teachers to develop professionally by being in line with innovative practices & methodology. These priorities being so diverse, we comprised them all in a single comprehensive whole, that of tackling the subject of national & EU heritage from a double perspective: - from the perspective of the social & economic impact the creation of the heritage had upon the development of the society as a whole;- from the perspective of the STEM involved in the creation of the heritage. The project aims at supporting our students in acquiring & developing basic (STEM, EN, social, intercultural & civic engagement, ICT) skills & at increasing their knowledge & motivation for preserving our heritage, while also fostering the professional development of the teachers. The project objectives:O1: to promote & ensure the recognition of the social, economic & educational value of the EU cultural heritage through activities developed in national & multinational teams (virtual & physical)O2: to promote interdisciplinary co-operation in STEM to address the problem of lack of motivation for the study of STEMO3: to develop basic STEM skills & knowledge through cross-curricular CLIL & ICT approachesO4: to support students & teachers in acquiring & developing EN skillsO5: to support effective & innovative pedagogies & teaching in order to contribute to the teachers' professional development O6: to promote & ensure the recognition of values, equity, non-discrimination, gender equality, diversity & social inclusion among students, teachers, other stakeholdersThe project targets students aged 15-18 & their teachers, both categories benefiting from training & skill development. There will be 90 mobilities for students & 50 mobilities for teachers, plus the participants from the hosting schools (18 ss &10 teachers). The project is structured in 3 training modules which aim at finding out the STEM behind tangible heritage as well as their social & economic impact, each module focusing on a subject: Maths-Module 1, Technology & Engineering-Module 2, Sciences-Module 3.The teachers will participate in short term training events in the topic of each module (C1, C3, C5), after which the teachers will organize the virtual training activities with the students. The virtual training will be done by using the eTwinning & the students will do the assignments of each module. Then the actual exchange of pupils (C2, C4, C6) will be organized. All targeted students from each school will participate in the virtual mobilities. The methods used in the training activities will target the fulfillment of the objectives, being innovative, task-based & stimulating creativity. Issues regarding the heritage will be studied by using CLIL methodology, study cases, ICT tools, study visits, experiments, hands on activities, lectures, research, assignments & tasks. We will use formative methods of evaluation & corrective measures if necessary. Peer evaluation will be used to evaluate & motivate students, developing critical thinking, enhancing engagement, augmenting learning. We envisage attaining the following results:-By studying the economic & social effects produced by the creation of heritage, our students will become aware of the value of the heritage-By exemplifying tangible heritage & by studying the STEM behind it, we will motivate students & help them understand the importance of STEM in life-108 students will be trained within 3 exchanges of pupils, plus other students trained at local level only-3 brochures (in English) resulting from the 3 modules-The students & the teachers will foster their EN skills & their abilities to interact linguistically & socially-Through attending 3 training sessions, through study & experience exchange, 60(10/partner) teachers will improve their methodological skills in teaching STEM combined with other subjects, through CLIL-The development of the students' social, civic & intercultural skillsWe will contribute to the institutional development by involving more than 900 people in all the project activities (students/teachers/others). There will be~60 teachers (10/partner) involved, who will develop their skills in project management & will become able to develop new EU projects.By involving other local community partners (ISJ/schools/universities/etc) &/or local authorities, we will contribute to the promotion of our schools & educational values. We will apply the results in current teaching & learning practice. The 3 brochures will be electronically published, becoming available to the whole educational community. We believe that the impact of this project on students & teachers will be a significant one.
