"<< Background >>The ""Beyond Capital"" project united diverse entities to empower early-stage social enterprises. Together, the partners aimed to enhance the social enterprise sector's resilience and impact. Partner's involvement, motivated by specific international challenges, such as financial mismanagement, underestimation of financial planning, and limited understanding of social enterprise models. For example: ECSF: Addressed the challenges social economy enterprises face in early growth, focusing on enhancing financial planning and management skills. CBE: Offered financial management training to its network, crucial for sustainable growth. SYNTHESIS Center for Research and Innovations: Aligned with Cyprus's needs, SYNTHESIS developed VET materials and enhanced European cooperation. General Goals: Targeted reducing startup mortality due to financial mismanagement amid economic and energy uncertainties. GEINNOVA: Joined to strengthen social enterprise evolution in Spain and Europe, vital for economic recovery. MICC and MSEI's goals included boosting local inclusive employment, providing financial management training, improving financing access, and addressing challenges in Spain's social enterprise sector.<< Objectives >>The Beyond Capital project had the objective of strengthening the capabilities of social entrepreneurs and managers in managing the early stages through a personalized training program. Simultaneously, it aimed to improve cooperation with European partners in the field of social economy and to enhance understanding of the financial challenges in the sector. For example, CBE, a participant in the project, focused on reducing the risk of failure for new social economy businesses and on providing advanced financial training for social entrepreneurs and managers. The project's main goal was the empowerment of social enterprises, cooperatives, and non-profit organizations through advanced training. This enabled participants to acquire essential business and financial skills, while also promoting sustainable funding pathways and an entrepreneurial mindset. It was anticipated that this would positively impact participants, partners, and stakeholders, improving financial competencies and the ability to manage challenges resiliently.<< Implementation >>In the Beyond Capital project, partners implemented a range of activities. ECSF and Exeolab organized focus groups in various countries to understand the needs of early-stage social entrepreneurs, significantly contributing to the design and analysis of the training course. They also piloted the Beyond Capital project in all countries involved and actively participated in the development and refinement of MOOCs, in addition to managing the project's communication and dissemination. CBE and MSEI focused on creating study documents and needs analysis, working on training modules and MOOCs. They also played a key role in communicating and spreading the results through their network of social enterprises and entrepreneurs. SYNTHESIS and MICC conducted focus groups to identify learning needs and participated in teaching and training activities. They piloted four training modules online and organized a multiplier event to present project outcomes and facilitate networking. GEINNOVA managed the project, participating in the creation and implementation of dissemination, evaluation, sustainability, and exploitation plans. They also supported the creation of the guide for vocational training providers and coordinated the creation, testing, and launch of the MOOC.<< Results >>In the Beyond Capital project, the ECSF was pivotal in PR1, focusing on a transnational research report that outlined the needs of social enterprises, forming the basis for the project's training curriculum. This curriculum, developed under PR2, targeted social entrepreneurs and managers, with SYNTHESIS specifically contributing to Module 4 on Social Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics. The project's major outcomes included supporting the social economy ecosystem through comprehensive research, enhancing the financial skills and knowledge of social entrepreneurs, and promoting proactive financial management in early-stage social enterprises. This approach was designed to elevate the sustainability and performance of these enterprises. Additionally, the project produced the 'Open Guide for VET Providers' under PR3, serving as a handbook for trainers and organizations to deliver effective training courses. This guide included evaluation methods for trainers to use during training sessions. A significant output was the development of a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) under PR4. This MOOC, offered for free on an online platform, provided a piloted and validated curriculum from PR2, broadening the project's accessibility and impact. Overall, the Beyond Capital project delivered a multi-faceted approach to training and supporting social entrepreneurs, encompassing iterative analysis, a comprehensive training curriculum, a guide for vocational training providers, and an accessible MOOC platform. These components collectively aimed to make social enterprises more sustainable, high-performing, and equipped with advanced financial and budgeting skills.
