"<< Background >>This project, entitled ""Ecological Steps"", aimed to develop environmental awareness and promote sustainable practices among students and teachers. Driven by the urgent need to address climate change and biodiversity loss, we aimed to empower a new generation of environmentally responsible citizens. Our project is built on a successful ewinning initiative (""DOC-3 Elements"") and extended its impact through transnational mobility activities. We targeted particularly vulnerable student communities, including refugees and students with special needs, to promote social inclusion and equal opportunities. Our primary objectives were:* Significantly increase knowledge and understanding of climate change, renewable energy, recycling and biodiversity.* To increase digital literacy and promote the use of technology in education.* To develop critical thinking, problem solving and collaboration skills among students and educators.* To promote intercultural understanding and co-operation between partner countries.* Successfully integrate environmental themes into the school curriculum.* To promote the long-term sustainability of environmental awareness in schools and the wider community.<< Objectives >>The main objectives were multi-faceted:Awareness Raising: We wanted to raise a passion for environmental protection among students and teachers by developing an understanding of climate change, the importance of biodiversity and the principles of responsible recycling* Developing Basic Skills: We aimed to develop critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration skills, as well as digital literacy by using digital tools such as Scratch for game development and e-book creation.* Promoting Intercultural Understanding: Our transnational approach is designed to foster intercultural understanding and cooperation.* Supporting Vulnerable Students:We tried to actively involve students from disadvantaged backgrounds, such as refugees and students with special needs. Our aim was to ensure that every student had the opportunity to participate in and benefit from the project activities. Through collaborative learning we aimed to foster a sense of belonging and promote successful social integration.* Incorporating Sustainability into Education: We aimed to leave a lasting legacy by working to incorporate environmental issues into school curricula. This would allow the learning from the project to extend well beyond the grant period.<< Implementation >>The following activities were carried out in the project: Belgium:We first focused on collaborative project planning and shared information about partner organisations, then dived into the science of climate change using modern digital tools through expert presentations and interactive workshops, Greece: Participants experienced renewable energy first-hand by visiting the Geopark of Crete-Sitia. They discovered the cultural richness of the region. Turkey: Participants worked with local experts and environmental organisations in Turkey. This intensive experience included workshops on best practices in recycling, seminars on environmentally friendly initiatives and trips to places such as botanical gardens. The aim was to see practical application on the ground. North Macedonia: Biodiversity, practical workshops, field visits and the collaborative creation of an e-book showcasing ecological recipes and project photos emphasised the importance of hands-on learning and sharing project results. Technology played an important role throughout the project, enabling communication through eTwinning, messaging platforms and social media. This made it much easier to share information and maintain close contact between different schools.<< Results >>The aim of the project was not just a series of workshops and presentations, but to bring a sustainable change in behaviours towards environmental sustainability. We have realised each of the concrete outputs of our project; the project's blog & website, ecological meals e-book, environmental slogans video work with sign language, ecological dictionary e-book work, games designed with artificial intelligence tools on the environment, eTwinning project activities (Please see attachments). We’ve integrated environmental awareness, climate change and recycling issues into the curriculum.Environmental awareness increased among teachers, students, parents and all stakeholders. In addition, we completed our work in cooperation with schools and NGOs at local, national and international level. Our NGO partner played an important role in establishing healthy communication between partners and in the budget management of the project. We carried out our project work through the etwinning platform. Our partner in Turkey won both the green flag as an ECO-SCHOOL and the brown flag by successfully completing the FOREST IN SCHOOLS programme. All schools created recycling units both in their classrooms and in the school garden."
