Making Adult Education lively through Artificial Intelligence

<< Background >>At the time of this project's application, AI had already been identified as one of the strategic technologies of the 21st century. This implies socio-economic changes requiring the citizens of the EU to adapt in order to face this revolution, particularly within the sphere of adult education. The proposal of this project is threefold: 1) modernize education and training systems with the use of AI; 2) provide EU citizens with the necessary knowledge, competencies and skills to cope with these challenges; 3) emphasize the creation of AI-based systems from an ethical and human-centric perspective. The objective of this project is to create OER (manual and e-learning platform) that facilitate the integration of AI into education from an ethical standpoint, and to disseminate these products among the identified target groups: adult educators (TG1), adult education institutions (TG2), and adult learners (TG3). We wish to note that our initial vision has been corroborated by the publication of the EU AI Act in June 2024, and by the inclusion of explicit references to AI in the Manifesto for Adult Learning in the 21st Century.<< Objectives >>The project has the following specific objectives:SO1: To strengthen institutional commitment to the implementation of EU guidelines on ethics in Artificial Intelligence (AI).SO2: To create Open Educational Resources (OER) that provide and validate competencies in the field of data and AI.SO3: To promote ethical data use in the field of education at all levels. This project aims to promote ethical data use throughout all levels of education, from adult education institutions themselves to their students, and across the entire development chain for learning materials and tools. This includes creating educational applications (particularly for online learning), collecting student-generated data during the teaching-learning process, and processing this data to enhance student learning. To achieve this, a series of Open Educational Resources have been created, alongside a micro-credential system to validate the competencies students gain by using these resources. All this will reinforce the commitment of adult education institutions to effectively apply EU guidelines on AI ethics, particularly within the sphere of adult education.<< Implementation >>During the project's development, the following activities were undertaken:-Meetings were conducted with representatives from the target groups to ascertain their specific requirements for the creation of the handbook and the proposed courses, as well as to disseminate information about the project.-National events were held to disseminate the project's outcomes among adult educators, adult education institutions, adult learners, and institutions that develop their own training courses. These initial target groups were expanded to include secondary education institutions and educators, and ICT professionals.-Webinars were organized to present the project's findings to interested institutions.-The project and its results were disseminated through press and radio interviews, social media, newsletters, the project website, and presentations.-The organization of and participation in the Future Skills Forum, held in Brussels, was strategically aligned with Erasmus Week to maximize media impact and with the third Transnational Project - -Meeting of the project partners to avoid unnecessary travel.-Open Educational Resources, specifically a handbook and an e-learning platform, were developed to provide training on the ethical us<< Results >>A handbook promoting ethical AI tool and data use in adult education. It comprises 4 chapters: introduction to AI and applications; ethical Big Data use; applying AI and Big Data to adult education; and a framework for ethically using Open Source platforms for digital educational content creation. An Open Educational Resource (OER) promoting and validating AI and data use competences in education, particularly adult education. This OER includes 4 courses available in 5 languages, complementing the handbook. The courses cover ethical Big Data use in adult digital learning environments, an AI and data-based methodology in digital learning, learning analytics and their application, and AI-driven learning personalization. A website centralizes the project's outcomes.
