Think globally, act locally

<< Background >>We want to make a turn from the traditional transfer of knowledge towards innovative, new teaching methods: research and project teaching, team work and purposeful use of ICT. With this project we want to empower teachers in teaching about sustainable development. In order to achieve this, continuous training and sharing of good teaching practice is necessary. Teachers who go on mobility share their knowledge with other teachers in the school so the whole school benefits, especially our students. We want to connect with schools in Europe and enable our students to make international contacts with their peers and strengthen self-confidence, improve communication and presentation skills. We want to increase students' interest in climate change and increase their motivation to participate in activities related to environmental protection.<< Objectives >>We want the topics of sustainable development to be more represented in the school curriculum in order to train students for active participation in environmental protection at the local and national level. It isnecessary to encourage discussion and learning about environmental protection, to influence the change of attitudes and daily habits, and to encourage green action in society.The activities proposed in this project seek to help students understand how climate change affects the Earth. Students are encouraged to act to make the world a better place. During the project, students raise awareness and spread knowledge about sustainable development. << Implementation >>Students actively participated in activities related to sustainable development such as painting exhibitions, created essays, comics, and leaflets, created digital and written materials in the form of posters, brochures, leaflets. Students created usable products from waste and used materials. Students worked in school gardens. Students visited places where they had the opportunity to meet and see examples of sustainable development: Technical Museum Zagreb, Aquatika Karlovac, Munster Museum of Natural History, Krka National Park, an example of sustainability in the local community of Murau. The following days were marked: World Water Day, Earth Day, World Environment Day, European Car Free Day, Earth Hour. Interesting lectures with concrete examples were held: the importance of groundwater; about an invasive type of cancer in Croatian rivers; the concept of the New European Bauhaus. The project encouraged students to participate in environmental protection initiatives: activities related to the signal cancer, an invasive species in the Korana river, which originates in the NP Plitvice Lakes and flows through our municipality. Students participated in the campaign of wrapping trees with jute to protect the trees from beavers.<< Results >>School curriculum enriched with projects related to climate change, sustainable development and environmental protection. Improving awareness of the European dimension through intercultural cooperation.Students initiate activities in the local community related to environmental protection and take responsibility for their future. Teachers wrote reports after the mobilities. Planned activities are described and photos are attached. Students recorded videos, exhibitions were organized. Brochures were created to spread information about our activities to a wider audience. A handbook for teachers with topics of sustainable development was created.
