Research Literacy of EFL Teachers

<< Objectives >>The goal of the project ReaLiTea is to improve the research literacy of pre-service and in-service English language teachers, addressing both the attitudes and competences needed to comprehend and carry out research related to their practice. In doing so, we hope to bridge some of the gaps between theory and practice, address the learning needs of marginalised populations at primary and secondary levels, and improve critical literacy regarding misinformation and disinformation. << Implementation >>We will develop, pilot, and evaluate materials that strengthen pre-service and in-service teachers' research skills. At the same time, we will address their attitudes towards engaging in research as classroom practitioners. This will be fostered, among other things, by a criterion-referenced tool that allows for self-assessment of research skills, knowledge, and attitudes. Additionally, we will enhance existing forums and create new opportunities for inquiry-based dialogue and practice. << Results >>In addition to creating a framework that allows for consistent, measurable, and validated assessment of research literacy competences for ELT, we will develop educational materials to strengthen these competences among both pre-service and in-service educators. These will be implemented in various settings and formats, generating accessibility and transferability. We will also provide opportunities for English educators to participate in virtual communities of research-aligned practice.
