Five Matters of Eco-Love: beautiful, sustainable and together

<< Background >>The 5MEL project was developed to address the need for accessible, creative, and practical environmental education for adult learners. Many adults, particularly those in rural and disadvantaged communities, lack opportunities to engage in sustainability education. The project aimed to bridge this gap by providing hands-on learning experiences that integrate environmental awareness, creative recycling, and nature-based education. The need for innovative approaches to sustainability education was identified, emphasizing interdisciplinary learning through STEAM-based activities and artistic expression. By fostering eco-conscious behaviors and equipping educators with practical tools, the project responded to the increasing necessity of promoting sustainability in everyday life while engaging local communities in active environmental responsibility.<< Objectives >>The project aimed to empower adult learners with practical knowledge of sustainability, creative recycling, and environmental education. Partners developed and disseminated the ECO-Love Guide, providing structured learning materials in multiple languages. The project also aimed to train educators in innovative sustainability education methodologies, ensuring long-term knowledge transfer. Through regional workshops, the goal was to engage 150+ participants in hands-on activities, fostering eco-friendly habits. Additionally, the project aimed to strengthen European collaboration in environmental education by building a network of educators, NGOs, and institutions committed to sustainability. Lastly, the project sought to enhance public awareness through digital dissemination, social media engagement, and media outreach.<< Implementation >>The project was implemented through a series of activities. A Kick-off Meeting aligned partners on project objectives and methodologies. A capacity-building Internal Workshop trained 10 educators on sustainability education methods, including creative recycling, upcycling, and environmental photography. The ECO-Love Guide was developed and published in six languages, offering hands-on learning materials for educators and learners. Five regional workshops engaged 159 adult learners in practical sustainability education. A comprehensive dissemination strategy included a project website, social media campaigns, and press releases to ensure widespread visibility. The Final Meeting in Portugal reviewed project outcomes, finalized reporting, and ensured long-term sustainability of the project’s results.<< Results >>The project successfully delivered key outputs, including the ECO-Love Guide, an open-access educational resource promoting sustainability through creative learning. Over 1,844 downloads of the guide and 159 workshop participants demonstrated high engagement. The project exceeded dissemination targets, reaching over 2 600 users on Facebook and 2,847 Instagram visits. The national workshops provided hands-on sustainability education, equipping adult learners with practical skills. A strong quality assurance framework ensured high implementation standards, with all KPIs met or exceeded. The project fostered new collaborations between educators, NGOs, and municipalities, ensuring its impact extends beyond completion. The project website will remain active for two years, providing continued access to educational materials.
