Eco-Teens: Tomorrow's Climate Pioneers

"<< Background >>The Eco-Teens: Tomorrow's Climate Pioneers project addresses the urgent need for climate education among students aged 10-14. Climate change has major global consequences, yet many students lack sufficient education on sustainability, and schools struggle to integrate engaging methods. This project bridges that gap by introducing interactive, innovative learning approaches.A key challenge is the lack of digital and gamified tools. While young people engage with digital platforms daily, climate education remains traditional. The E-Climate Game enhances student engagement, making complex environmental topics more accessible. The project also empowers educators by providing workshops, training, and structured materials to help integrate sustainability into curricula. Support from school administrations ensures long-term impact.International cooperation is crucial, as climate change affects regions differently. By uniting partners from Belgium, Portugal, Poland, and Turkey, the project fosters knowledge exchange, enriching climate education and civic engagement. Finally, the project promotes youth participation through hands-on activities and virtual events, inspiring students to adopt sustainable lifestyles and take action.<< Objectives >> By implementing this project, we seek to:Strengthen cross-sector cooperation between schools, eco-educational organizations, and digital platforms to expand the project’s impact.Expand climate education by integrating climate change topics into formal curricula with interactive and digital learning methods.Develop the E-Climate Game to make environmental education more engaging and accessible for students aged 10-14.Empower educators through structured training, workshops, and ready-to-use educational materials.Encourage international collaboration by facilitating knowledge exchange among partners from Belgium, Portugal, Poland, and Turkey.Promote youth participation by engaging students in hands-on activities, workshops, and virtual events to foster sustainable habits.Enhance digital climate literacy by incorporating gamification and technology-driven approaches into climate education.Inspire students to adopt sustainable behaviours and become proactive in climate action.Ensure the long-term integration of climate education by involving school administrations and policymakers in the process.<< Implementation >>The project started with a successful online kickoff meeting, where objectives were presented, tasks assigned, and project management defined. The training modules were discussed, planned, and structured. A partnership agreement was signed, and the official project website was launched: ecoteens.visiontree.be. Social media channels were set up, and promotional activities began. The first physical activity, ""The Digital Dive into Climate’s Voice"" (June 2024, Brussels), engaged all partners in workshops on AI, blockchain, and digital tools for climate action. Two Unity-based educational games were presented, and stakeholders participated in discussions. A city tour, including a visit to the Parlamentarium, was organized. The second physical activity, ""Pioneers of Planetary Progress"" (October 2024, Santarém), covered sustainability, green technologies, and circular economy. Students developed educational games, and a visit to the University of Lisbon provided insights into ecological projects. The game development phase is ongoing, with partners creating 40 Unity games across four environmental themes (Air, Land, Sea, Glaciers), adapted to local capabilities and student involvement.<< Results >>* E-Climate Game Suite: 40 Unity mini-games across Air, Water, Soil, Glaciers. WebGL builds delivered; source code shared for reuse/localisation.* Teacher-ready resources: a Classroom Activity E-Book aligned to the four modules with objectives, timing, step-by-steps, differentiation, assessment rubrics, and printables.* Official website/play hub: ecoteens.visiontree.be with module pages, a download centre and news; long-term access point for all outputs.* eTwinning collaboration space: all our results are chared* Four successfully transnational LTTs: Brussels (Jun 2024), Santarém (Oct 2024), Warsaw (Mar 2025), İzmit (Jun 2025); workshops/working groups produced teacher-made resources and training slides.* Monitoring & evaluation: pre/post mini-tests, conversational interviews and play-test logs evidenced learning gains and guided improvements.* International collaboration & student creativity: partners exchanged best practices; students at school designed and presented their own climate games.* Dissemination & visibility: coordinated social media/blog updates, in-class play sessions, and outreach to nearby schools/NGOs increased uptake among teachers, leaders and local stakeholders."
