Tool4youth

<< Background >>The motivation for initiating the 'Tool4youth' project was the recognition of the significant challenges and dangers presented by the COVID-19 infodemic. The pandemic's unique context—marked by the widespread use of technology and social media—has led to an unprecedented surge in the amount of information circulated, resulting in misinformation and disinformation that have severely undermined public health responses and efforts to control the virus. These issues have not only posed risks to physical and mental health but have also threatened societal values such as democracy, human rights, and social cohesion. In response, our project aimed to address the urgent need for enhanced media literacy, particularly among youth, to equip them with the skills necessary to navigate and critically assess the overwhelming stream of information encountered in the digital age. The project sought to empower individuals to differentiate between credible and false information, thereby contributing to more informed and safer communities.<< Objectives >>The primary goal of the 'Tool4youth' project was to enhance media literacy and raise awareness about the prevalence of false information, particularly among the youth and youth workers, thereby extending its impact to the wider community. Specifically, we aimed to:1.Increase awareness of the characteristics of fake news and untrustworthy resources.2.Foster a shared consciousness aimed at altering societal habits related to uncritically accepting information.3.Promote EU-funded projects to a broader audience, highlighting their value and impact.4.Emphasize the significant role of youth education and its profound effects at various societal levels.5.Enhance the media literacy skills of young individuals.6.Develop essential soft skills among youth, including design thinking, creativity, adaptability, resilience, and empathy.7.Strengthen communication, teamwork, digital literacy, analytical, and research skills.8.Encourage the creation of innovative ideas, fostering questioning and problem-solving capabilities.9.Reach 6000 individuals to raise awareness.<< Implementation >>TPMs:1.TPM1 in Portugal: Served as the kick-off meeting, setting the stage for the project's objectives and activities.2.TPM2 in Poland: Focused on deciding the structure of the comic strip and sharing responsibilities among partners.3.TPM3 in Lithuania: Involved finalizing the comic strip, presenting it during the Multiplier event, and evaluating it with questionnaires to gauge effectiveness.4.TPM4 in Portugal: Aimed at evaluating the overall project, presenting the results, and discussing the impacts and future implications.LTTs:1.LTT1 in Turkey: Concentrated on developing the comic strip by conducting street research to identify how the infodemic affects individuals and societies, creating potential scenarios, and selecting relevant topics with partner organizations.2.LTT2 in Bosnia: Continued the development of the comic strip, focusing on taking photos, writing dialogues, and finalizing the creation process. These activities were designed to foster a deep understanding and awareness of media literacy among youth and youth workers. By engaging directly with the community and stakeholders, the project aimed to amplify its message and reach a broad audience, in line with our ambitious outreach objectives.<< Results >>We developed an educational comic strip to promote media literacy among young people by illustrating the impact of the infodemic and providing tools to combat misinformation. Our website hosts peer-to-peer activities and scenarios related to the infodemic, serving as a resource for youth workers and educators, while our Facebook page facilitates wider engagement and dissemination of project materials. Detailed scenarios based on real-life situations were created to illustrate the effects of the infodemic, and a unique logo symbolizes our commitment to media literacy. Furthermore, the project strengthened the skills of youth workers and organizations, improved participants' personal skills, fostered active citizenship, and enhanced critical 21st-century skills. Overall, we successfully engaged 2000 individuals in the community, distributed the toolkit to 1000 people, reached 100 participants through a Multiplier Event, engaged 1000 individuals online, and reached another 1000 through workshops and interactive formats, contributing to increased awareness and understanding of media literacy efforts.
