<< Background >>We applied for this project because we came across key challenges faced by third- and fourth-generation Italians living abroad, as well as young adults in southern Italy. Through research and engagement with Italian migrant organizations, the urgent need to preserve cultural heritage and reinforce linguistic and intergenerational connections was confirmed. Many third- and fourth-generation Italians no longer identify with Italy due to inadequate language skills. This lack of linguistic competence prevents them from fully engaging with their heritage and leads to a stereotyped or outdated perception of the country. By addressing this gap, we sought to foster a more authentic connection between these individuals and their Italian roots. On the other hand in Southern Italy a significant number of young adults face difficulties in securing employment due to insufficient skills and limited economic opportunities. The project initially aimed to enhance their digital competencies to improve their employability. While some progress was made, training young people in Italy proved more challenging than expected, highlighting the need for additional targeted interventions in this area.<< Objectives >>By applying for this project, we aimed to actively address these needs through structured language learning, cultural engagement, and digital skill development. Our specific objectives included the promotion of Italian cultural heritage through language and music. By integrating language learning with music and storytelling, we sought to make cultural heritage more accessible and engaging for Italians abroad. We also wanted to foster a renewed link between Italians abroad and modern Italy through interactive and digital resources. The project aimed to bridge the generational and geographical gap, helping Italians living abroad engage with contemporary Italy. We enhanced communication between generations by developing structured language learning tools. We sought to facilitate meaningful interactions between older and younger generations, preserving intergenerational cultural continuity. The project intended to equip young adults in a rural area (Basilicata) with essential digital competencies to enhance their employability. << Implementation >>The initial kick-off meeting allowed partners to analyze the needs of target groups and define project priorities. Then we conducted research and collected data from Italian migrant organizations in Belgium to identify the specific linguistic and cultural challenges faced by third- and fourth-generation Italians abroad. We created a project website to serve as a hub for project materials, cultural content, and language-learning resources. During the transnational meeting, partners collaborated on the development of a methodological framework and discussed the next steps for content creation. After this we created a methodological framework where we established a structured approach for integrating language learning with cultural heritage, ensuring effective implementation of the project goals. This resulted in the design and implementation of the pilot module (app). We developed and tested an interactive digital tool that combines language learning with cultural and musical elements, making Italian heritage more accessible to learners. During the transnational meeting in Italy we focused on evaluating the project and we discussed further improvements of the app and future collaborations.<< Results >>First of all we sent questionnaires to all Italian migrant organizations in Belgium. These provided valuable insights into the challenges and expectations of third- and fourth-generation Italians regarding cultural and linguistic engagement. Then we used the input from the questionnaires to develop content for the project’s website and for the digital platform. The collected data shaped the creation of relevant and targeted learning materials. We created audio material and exercises for the pilot module. These resources enhanced the learning experience by integrating language with cultural and musical elements. We developed a digital learning platform (app): an interactive tool that provided an innovative approach to Italian language and cultural heritage education. We strengthened the digital competencies among jobseekers in Basilicata. While some progress was made in equipping young adults with digital skills, training young people in Italy proved more challenging than anticipated, limiting the project's impact in this area.
