<< Background >>We applied for this project thanks to the enthusiasm and interest shown by our youngsters in environmental topics. They highlighted the importance of preserving green spaces for pollinators and also for people as recreational areas. We wanted to show our young members how important it is to drive change even at a young age. We had identified a problem where people didn't fully grasp the wider effects of the decreasing number of pollinators. The project aimed to bridge this gap by educating the public about the critical role of pollinators in ecosystems and food production. We wanted to connect local environmental issues, such as the pollinator problem, with global challenges like climate change and habitat destruction. By highlighting the interconnectedness of these issues, we aimed to encourage the public to think beyond the local problems and consider broader environmental concerns. We wanted to encourage people to adopt sustainable practices in their daily lives, contributing to a reduction in carbon footprint and overall environmental improvement.<< Objectives >>We wanted to educate the public about the crucial role that pollinators play in ecosystems and their significance in food production. Our goal was to give the community a comprehensive understanding of the consequences of a decline in pollinator populations. We aimed to showcase the influential role young people can play in driving change. Our hope was to not only achieve the project's immediate outcomes but to also foster a sense of responsibility and activism among the young participants. We wanted people to understand that local challenges often mirror larger, global concerns. Through this project, we sought to inspire individuals to adopt sustainable practices in their everyday lives. Understanding the importance of green spaces for both pollinators and people, we aimed to emphasize their preservation and highlight their dual role in our community.<< Implementation >>We conducted interactive online meetings, featuring presentations and discussions among project partners. Through this initiative, we fostered knowledge sharing, facilitated brainstorming, and compiled lists of organisations focused on pollinators and environmental concerns. We launched an interactive platform, https://bee-aware.eu/, to underscore the significance of pollination and the challenges it faces. Our website not only documented the activities of the project but also provided educational material. It serves as a conduit to foster a community, promote best practices, and inspire the replication of our activities for the greater benefit of the community. In another initiative, each partner prepared an awareness campaign in a supermarket or highly visited store. We highlighted products dependent on pollinators, illustrating the potential impact of their extinction. Adjacent to these products, we placed informative cards with QR codes that link to our website. Other activities were public workshops teaching participants about beneficial plants for pollinators and awareness to protect these creatures. << Results >>Raising awareness campaigns: Our campaigns effectively highlighted the vital role of pollinators and created new partnerships among various sectors.Community engagement initiatives: Activities like seed bomb creation and planting involved the community in environmental action, deepening their connection with nature.Digital outreach: The project's website, https://bee-aware.eu/, serves as a hub for informative articles, extending the project's impact beyond local areas. We also created a Padlet for a quick project overview https://padlet.com/projekta/BeeAwareEUEducational materials: Produced and distributed leaflets and guides provided practical tips on pollinator protection and eco-friendly practices.Stakeholder collaboration: The project built strong partnerships with businesses, educational entities, and NGOs.Social media engagement: Utilised social platforms effectively to reach a broader audience and sustain discussions on environmental protection.International collaboration: The partnership between partners allowed for a rich exchange of knowledge and practices.Long-term educational partnerships: Fostered lasting relationships with educational institutions to encourage future sustainability efforts.
