INTEGRITY-AI - Integrating Ethical AI Governance for Responsibility, Innovation, and Transparency in Higher Education

As artificial intelligence (AI) technologies continue to evolve at a rapid pace, Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) face the pressing challenge of integrating AI ethically within their administrative and academic systems. While many HEIs are exploring and adapting existing AI tools, few have taken proactive steps to develop new AI technologies or establish dedicated units for governance and advisory roles in AI adoption.The core objective of the project is two-fold: to promote responsible AI adoption among HEIs across Guatemala, Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil and to empower them to take leading roles in forming transparent, sustainable, literacy-based, and ethical processes for AI development. Through this, the project aims to bring long-term sustainability and build trust in AI in higher education.Integrity-AI stresses the establishment of ethical standards and governance frameworks, which enables HEIs to create special units that guide responsible AI integration. The special units will serve as expertise hubs for AI adoption, aligning with the ethical principles of institutional goals. Besides, the project seeks to develop a model that can easily be replicated by other higher education institutions across Latin America. It will also serve as a model, clearly setting parameters for what needs to be done in AI ethical integration, while simultaneously taking the lead in guiding through action on implementing those elements necessary for ensuring AI improves academic excellence and societal impact.Through collaboration and the establishment of these specialized units, INTEGRITY-AI aspires to a future where HEIs will lead the way in the responsible use and development of AI, thus setting standards for a sustainable and ethical AI ecosystem in the region.
