"<< Background >>The ""RealityCheck"" project arose from the urgent need to offer young people authentic, practical insights into the real world of work and profession in order to be able to make reflective, experience-based decisions for future educational, training and career paths. The opportunities for this are very different in European education systems and school types. Rapid developments in digitalization, the need for skilled workers, and artificial intelligence are exacerbating this need. Schools and parents do not always have the necessary contacts with practitioners. Companies also need support in finding the right approach for young people. This gap is closed with RealityChecks – activating formats for young people to engage with work and career in an inspiring way: practical experiences, low-threshold access for all young people – regardless of origin or educational background – with a view to inclusion and diversity, and all this in close cooperation between schools, companies and institutions. In this way, the project aims at both regional needs and European strategies that call for a closer connection between education, the world of work and social participation.<< Objectives >>The focus was on providing young people with activating ""hands-on"" experiences that go beyond classic career orientation measures. New approaches are being developed to allow young people to actively experience the world of work. This can only be achieved through cooperation between schools and companies. Therefore, schools should be supported in systematically cooperating with companies. The project aimed to establish permanent regional networks of schools, companies and institutions that will remain in place even after the end of the project. In these, innovative formats for RealityChecks are developed that meet the needs of companies as well as those of students and teachers. The qualification of educators, consultants and company trainers is a prerequisite for their effective use. To this end, practical procedures and a training concept were developed and evaluated. In this way, the goal of a sustainable effectiveness of RealityChecks as an element of lively and realistic educational and career orientation can be achieved. The aim was to develop and disseminate the formats in a way that could be used throughout Europe.<< Implementation >>The core of the project was the development, testing and dissemination of RealityChecks in various settings. To this end, four regional networks were set up, bringing together schools, companies and regional actors. In close cooperation, twelve innovative pilot formats were created, which were tested, evaluated and adapted in schools. At the same time, a manual was created that documents the process and provides methodological advice, as well as a toolbox that contains practical materials and templates. A 3-part modular training concept was developed and tested. This is aimed at teachers, consultants and companies in order to strengthen their skills and enable the implementation of RealityChecks, including the development of new, innovative formats. This was accompanied by feedback loops with user groups and conferences. This and the hybrid joint final conference, simultaneously at 4 European locations, ensured the exchange between practice in schools and companies and science. Website, social media, publications and presentations in regional and European forums were used for dissemination to ensure reach and sustainability.<< Results >>Central outputs are 4 established regional networks, 12 innovative, new RealityChecks as well as a practice-oriented manual and toolbox in four languages and a modular training concept. These tools enable schools, counselling centres and companies to plan, carry out or develop RealityChecks independently. The 12 pilot formats show how differently RealityChecks can be designed depending on the age group and topic. The evaluation showed that young people benefit particularly from personal encounters with companies, teachers appreciate the practical relevance in the classroom and companies experience direct contact with the young generation as an added value. The improved communication between school and business as well as the higher motivation of young people to deal with job profiles should be emphasized positively. Sustainability is ensured by the fact that the materials are freely accessible via the project website and are already integrated into ongoing work in several regions. This means that the project is not only regionally effective, but can also provide benefits throughout Europe."
