RESKILLING CRAFTS - Testing a new model of inclusive reskilling labs to boost the digital and sustainable future of the Craft Sector

European Crafts sector faces a projected 13% decline in handicraft and printing workers by 2035 with a potential loss of 133,000 jobs. At the same time the sector will experience substantial job openings, estimated at 387,000 job to replace workers retiring from the workforce. On the other hand, there is a pool of talent and untapped potential of 46.1% of the adult population in Europe, mainly low-educated or low-skilled adults, with the potential for upskilling and reskilling.The Craft sector also requires integrating innovative, sustainable practices and digital technologies to meet contemporary market demands, consistently with the digital and green transition the sector is immersed in. These rapid changes in skills requirements demand appropriate support for reskilling, to mitigate the effects of the skills gap in the sector and take full advantage of the labour opportunities available. This need for support is required not only by crafts practitioners but particularly by low skilled and vulnerable individuals, potential beneficiaries of the upskilling and reskilling programmes, including those traditionally hesitant to participate in adult education. The main objective of RESKILLING CRAFTS project is to test a new model of inclusive reskilling labs to boost the digital and sustainable future of the Crafts sector, bringing together public and private players to help employed and unemployed workers reskill for crafts sector jobs adapted to the green and digital economy. The project aims to establish a European Craft Sector Reskilling Alliance that will define the Blueprint of Reskilling labs for the Craft sectors in Europe and implement and test a CRAFT Reskilling LABs Platform to support reskilling and upskilling training programmes. The expected result is an effective structural collaboration framework in the crafts sectors in Europe, where all actors involved share the responsibility for adult skills development.
