<< Background >>The PRIME project was initiated to address the critical gaps in youth participation and student council governance across Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania. Research indicated that students lacked trust in their representative forums, feeling that their voices had little influence on decision-making processes. Many student councils functioned more as event organizers rather than as advocacy platforms, and their members often lacked the necessary leadership skills, legal knowledge, and institutional support to enact meaningful change. Additionally, the absence of structured mentorship and the over-control of teachers limited the autonomy and effectiveness of student governance. This project sought to bridge these gaps by providing structured training for student leaders, teachers, and municipal officials, strengthening the institutional framework for youth participation, and fostering regional and international collaboration. By developing research-based training materials, governance templates, and digital learning tools, the project aimed to empower student councils, enhance their credibility, and improve their engagement with decision-makers at both the school and municipal levels.<< Objectives >>The project aimed to strengthen the role and legitimacy of student councils by equipping them with structured governance tools, leadership training, and institutional support. A key objective was to bridge the gap between student representatives and decision-makers, ensuring that youth voices were not only heard but also actively included in school and municipal governance processes. Another primary goal was to standardize and professionalize mentorship for student councils, enabling teachers and municipal officials to provide meaningful guidance without limiting student autonomy. By creating interactive training programs, digital learning resources, and policy recommendations, the project sought to establish a sustainable framework for youth engagement that could be expanded regionally and nationally. Additionally, fostering cross-border collaboration between Hungarian-speaking student leaders in Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania was crucial to enhancing knowledge-sharing and building long-term cooperation between student governance bodies beyond individual schools or countries.<< Implementation >>The project implemented a comprehensive set of activities aimed at strengthening student councils and youth participation. A large-scale research study was conducted across Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania to assess student council effectiveness and identify key challenges. Based on the findings, structured training programs were developed for student leaders, teachers, and municipal officials, ensuring tailored support for each target group. To enhance accessibility, a digital knowledge platform was created, hosting governance templates, best practice guides, and policy recommendations. In addition, regional and national workshops, networking events, and multiplier conferences were held to disseminate results and engage key stakeholders. Cross-border student council collaborations were also fostered to encourage knowledge exchange and long-term cooperation. Lastly, policy recommendations and governance frameworks were developed, ensuring that project results could influence youth policy discussions and institutional decision-making processes beyond the project's duration.<< Results >>The project produced structured training programs for student leaders, teachers, and municipal officials, ensuring that each group received tailored guidance on youth governance. A comprehensive research report provided data-driven insights into student council effectiveness, influencing institutional policies. One of the key outcomes was the creation of a digital knowledge platform, housing governance templates, best practices, and policy briefs, making project results widely accessible. Additionally, national and regional dissemination events engaged educators, policymakers, and youth organizations, fostering dialogue and collaboration. An important achievement was the cross-border cooperation between Hungarian-speaking student councils in Hungary, Slovakia, and Romania, strengthening regional youth networks. Furthermore, the project resulted in policy recommendations and advocacy tools that support long-term improvements in youth representation and institutional engagement.
