"<< Background >>We proposed the innovative “Leonardo 4 Children Academy” (L4CA) to empower teachers to foster students’ creativity and address global challenges such as climate change and equality. The project responded to the need for pedagogical tools that combine artistic and scientific competencies, helping students interpret and propose solutions to global issues. Many educators lack resources to implement project-based and STEAM practices; the project bridges this gap with a holistic model that promotes creativity, interdisciplinarity, critical thinking, and teamwork. The “Leonardo 4 Children"" non-profit initiative and Awards developed since 2019 showed strong interest from teachers and students in climate action and equality. Children and teenagers can thrive when both artistic and scientific skills are nurtured through suitable methods and receive the appropriate stimulus from teachers. The project’s international scope, involving both primary and secondary schools in five EU countries, enables exchange of practices and the creation of a shared methodology supported by case studies. The model and practical examples can inspire other teachers, and the link with the broader initiative promote long-term impact and sustainability.<< Objectives >>The final objective is to promote the development of artistic and scientific skills in children and young people, so that they can use them to become responsible leaders of the 21st century and address key global issues, such as climate change and equality. The primary goal is to provide teachers with an innovative interdisciplinary educational model, offering a methodology, training, and practical examples to integrate STEAM education and civic education of children. The project pursued the following specific objectives:1.to design an innovative L4CA educational model and toolkit for teachers, co-created by partner schools;2.to implement the L4CA in schools across Europe to develop artistic & scientific skills of students, inspired by Leonardo da Vinci - an artistic and scientific genius who used creativity to solve the problems of his time;3.to organize workshops and events creating a solidarity link between children and young people that can help face together the challenges of increasing climate change and inequalities;4.to use the L4CA model as a tool to address policy-makers at EU, national and local level on the importance of STEAM education to foster civic and citizenship education in schools.<< Implementation >>We implemented a structured set of activities aimed at developing and testing the innovative “L4CA” educational model. With crucial feedback of 61 primary and secondary schools’ teachers, we designed a STEAM-based toolkit and methodology, integrating science and arts to empower students to address climate change and equality. Focus groups involving 29 teachers helped co-create and refine the training material for teachers.Following the training of 29 teachers, the model was tested in 5 schools with 507 students and 26 teachers in pilots, and an estimated 1892 students and 95 teachers in 88 activities including interdisciplinary workshops, creative projects, music and cultural events, hands-on activities such as building eco-friendly tools, designing sustainable cities, creating documentaries, creating digital apps. Seven case studies were developed to capture best practices. We organized events like art and science weeks, festivals, concerts, and thematic days helped promote civic engagement and attract the interest of students, teachers and parents. We shared open-access materials online, presented results to to stakeholders including the final conference to ensure the project impact and sustainability.<< Results >>The “Leonardo 4 Children Academy” (L4CA) educational model and toolkit, translated into 7 languages and publicly available.Training toolkit for teachers including guidelines and slides; a 35-hour training course publicly available.Seven case studies publicly available.Practical use of the model in primary and secondary schools in 5 EU countries, tested with 26 teachers and 507 students in pilots, and an estimated number of 95 teachers and 1892 students.Student outcomes included improved creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and global awareness. For instance, teachers reported that 99.4% students (out of 507) experienced an increase in their STEAM skills and 100% an increase in their sense of belonging to a community of children engaged against climate change and for a more equal society, following their experience with the piloted L4CA model.Communication: 8343 users reached via website and social media; 4,863 impressions across social media platforms and 426 followers; 27 newsletters sent to almost 300 contacts, with opening rate of 56%.Six concerts in Brussels, Prague, Vilnius, Florence, Athens, Brussels, with more than 1700 participants.Final project conference with 120 participants."
