"<< Background >>The Artificial Intelligence: Methodology for Quality Education (AIM4) project aims to develop sustainable and scalable methodologies to enhance student learning and equip teachers with innovative AI-based teaching practices that integrate 21st-century approaches into classrooms. It focuses on early secondary education (grades 7-9, ages 11-14), a critical transition period. The key learning points of the project will focus on AI in education, especially inrelation to how AI and adaptive learning techniques affect classroom teachingpractice and can develop students skills in recognising issues such as bias in the AI.The project outcomes include a final AIM4 Quality Education report that will provide actionable insights on readiness, resilience, and capacity for integrating AI in education. << Objectives >>The overarching objective of the AIM 4 project is to: DEVELOP INNOVATIVE PRACTICE FOR TEACHERS IN USING AI-BASED ADAPTIVE LEARNING APPROACHES IN THE CLASSROOM. The specific project objectives are to:1.Develop a methodology and teaching framework for implementing Adaptive Learning approaches in teaching and learning; 2. Identify core competencies necessary to adopt innovative digital approaches in teaching; 3. Foster core 21st century digital and life skills in students; 4. Develop awareness in students of the ethical and moral dimensions of using AItechnologies; 5. Foster collaborative practice, peer-review and exchange of good practice using the collaborative platform. Using Artificial Intelligence within a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) approach, AIM4 will provide students and their teachers with an AI-BASED LEARNING MODULE provided by EvidenceB.<< Implementation >>The project implemented several key activities designed to achieve its objectives. These included developing a teacher-training program to upskill educators on AI and adaptive learning techniques, utilizing the ""Meet and Learn"" collaborative platform for engagement and peer-review, and conducting intensive transnational project meetings to discuss progress, operational benchmarks, and risks. AI-based adaptive learning modules were developed to provide personalized learning pathways for students, enhancing their grasp of complex subjects like Artificial Intelligence. Collaborative activities facilitated knowledge sharing, while outputs like Teacher Reflective Journals and Student Digital Scrapbooks documented insights and experiences.<< Results >>The AIM4 project achieved significant results, delivering innovative AI-based learning tools and fostering professional development among teachers and students. These outputs met the majority of the original objectives and advanced adaptive learning methodologies in education, despite a few challenges.Concrete Results and AchievementsKey results included the development of AI-focused e-learning materials and teacher training programs. Sixteen teachers from four partner schools participated in comprehensive training, gaining expertise in AI-based teaching and adaptive learning methodologies. Training resources, including e-books, videos, and interactive modules, were translated into five languages (English, French, Italian, Bulgarian, and Portuguese), ensuring accessibility and relevance. Participant feedback showed high satisfaction with the training, enhancing teachers' competencies and instructional methods.A bespoke AI-based adaptive learning module was developed and piloted in classrooms. This tool enabled personalized learning paths for students while providing teachers with analytical dashboards to refine their instruction. The module effectively introduced cognitive-based learning and offered real-time insights into student progress.Teachers documented their classroom experiences in Reflective Journals, with 11 journals completed across three schools (Osnovno: 4, Agrupamento: 3, Maggiotti: 4). These journals served as valuable records of the project’s impact on teaching practices. Students created Digital Scrapbooks, reflecting on their learning experiences through storytelling, videos, and creative work. Seven scrapbooks were completed, demonstrating the students' critical engagement with AI concepts and their applications. The Meet & Learn platform facilitated collaboration, resource sharing, and peer review among participants. It served as the central hub for training materials and project outputs, fostering a strong sense of community and engagement across partner schools. Objectives AchievedThe project met its primary objectives:Professional development: Teachers were equipped to integrate AI tools into their classrooms, improving instructional strategies.Student skill development: Students developed critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills through personalized learning.Innovative teaching methodologies: The AI module enabled adaptive instruction tailored to individual needs.Ethical awareness: Discussions on AI’s societal and ethical implications engaged students in meaningful reflection and dialogue.Challenges and Unmet ObjectivesThe project encountered some challenges. The French team withdrew before completing classroom experimentation, resulting in incomplete contributions from Lycée Paul Valéry for Reflective Journals and Scrapbooks. Additionally, the final multiplier event did not take place, and some planned dissemination activities for broader audiences were not fully realized.Achievements Beyond ExpectationsDespite these setbacks, the project exceeded expectations in several areas. The Portuguese and Italian teams translated the AI module into their native languages, broadening its reach. In Portugal, students applied their knowledge to analyze topics like fake news, demonstrating the practical applicability of their learning. The Italian Regional School Office integrated the project’s outputs into new initiatives, extending its impact to other schools and networks, such as the Erasmus+ Forward Looking project. In summary, the AIM4 project successfully delivered innovative AI-based tools and professional development programs, empowering teachers and students while advancing adaptive learning methodologies. Although some objectives were not fully realized, the project’s achievements significantly exceeded expectations, demonstrating its value and potential for scalability across diverse educational contexts. Based on the positive outcomes of the project and interest of the teachers to continue exploring the use of AI, EvidenceB has offered the schools a free use of Adaptiv'Math its flagship and multi-awarded solution, combining its latest algorithms & 5 modules representing more than 8.000 exercises. This will allow the schools to foster their first experience and strengthening the partnership."
