<< Background >>5 nations: Poland, Portugal, Italy, Spain and Turkey took action with the project: “Biodiversity: discovery & action” to raise significant awareness about the most important issues such as the environment and climate change. Sustainable educational tours, lectures, a variety of STEAM, Art, Music, Science laboratory workshops with the researchers from different educational institutions helped to shed light on the problem that students could take the action. In each mobility students ran the Hackathon and in small multinational groups created the proposals on how to face the biodiversity problems discovered in the activities, they practiced cooperative learning, public speaking, creativity and decision making.. Through the project activities students focused on sustainability and Agenda 2030 goals, in particular Goal 13, 14,15. Our students discovered the problem of environment and climate change in 5 nations but also they realized the scale of the problem and took action by protecting endangered species, planting trees, saving water, recycling rubbish, and stopping the use of plastic. Thanks to the multicultural environment and the partners’ collaboration we have developed greatly the terms of “biodiversity” and human diversity.<< Objectives >>Participating Organizations wanted to raise awareness on the importance of Biodiversity and living organisms; in each mobility students from Poland, Portugal, Italy, Spain and Turkey discovered different endangered animals and in small multinational groups discussed the solutions of further survival for them. We wanted to get experiences in a non-formal way that helps our students to connect with nature while maintaining the importance of biodiversity.Students and teachers compared the different school systems. All schools are implementing new teaching methods to make students active learners and make education accessible and create equal opportunities regardless of where people live and what their financial status or personal circumstances are .The visit to the different schools opened their eyes to new realities. The partners concentrated on how knowledge and experience about distributed and distance learning models could be transferred between the partner countries and how such models can be integrated into the education system to better support higher education and lifelong learning.. Students significantly improved their communication skills and interpreted concepts, thoughts, feelings, facts and opinions .<< Implementation >>In our project we implemented different activities:HACKATHON, a live event where participants commit to a problem or project in a short-form intensive working group to create innovative solutions.Students, in mixed multinational groups analyzed the problem and found innovative, concrete and feasible solutions / proposals for the following points:Land and sea use changePollutionSpecies overexploitationClimate changeInvasive species and diseasesTransversal skills, such as creativity, complex problem solving, judgment, decision-making, entrepreneurship, English and communication skills like speaking, using ICT tools. For Polish and Turkish students and teachers, the hackathon was not known and brought a lot of fun but also a great challenge to collaborate with small multinational groups.SUSTAINABLE GUIDED TOURS and photo taking of specific rare species,LECTURES/workshops with the scientists related to insects, birds, reptiles, mammals.ACTION RESEARCH observing and collecting data about endangered inhabitants: hermit beetle, capricorn beetle, wolves, birds, chameleons.SUSTAINABLE WALKING AND BIKE TOURS to observe and compare biodiversity of the natural side in different areas.VIDEOS/PPT During each mobility students presented the works they had prepared in advance about different tasks:Our school and our educational systemBiodiversity in our countryWhat does our school, our city, our country and the EU, do for biodiversity?Biodiversity and natural disastersRiver, Sea and lake are life and give life<< Results >>Pupils worked in international teams to research on sustainability and biodiversity, made the hackathon, voted for the slogan of the project and tried to present solutions to partner countries; we had presentation meetings, evaluation meetings, webinars with presentations.Together in international teams, and with a coordinator teacher, the decisions were taken in group and with everyone's collaboration. We used technology to create in students the motivation for discovery and as a way of disseminating results therefore we used different resources to enrich the activities and improve the students; digital skills: we used book creator, mentimeter, genially, prezi, animator, powerpoint, storyjumper, padlet, Kahoot. quizizz, google.docs, surveymonkey. We tried to diversify in order to maintain the students interest and applied each platform to the final objective/product.We got concrete outputs:certificates, kahoots and gamespresentationsvideoslearning scenariosbrochures a Bio - friendly magazine in 5 languagesebook with all activities done.Learing/teaching materials for scince, geography, biology, English and citizenship lessons.
