"<< Background >>In the beginning of the 2020ies, climate change and its consequences on our world have been already a most urgent theme, to which our consortium wanted to make a contribution. We thought to focus on people with lower educational levels, and undertook a needs analysis which showed that only 9,3 % of the Austrian population have only elementary school education, compared to 24,8 % among people with migration background. These figures made us more motivated to apply for a project producing awareness raising materials for climate issues in simple language. As we also knew that in this target group most people do not own a computer, we wanted to make sure that the contents are easily available. Therefore we designed the project in such way that the contents are available also as mobile apps for Android phones, and there not only for reading, but also in audio format. Moreover, having our target groups in mind, it seemed obligatory to produce the contents in in all languages of the partnership (German, Slovenian, Greek). In addition, in order to reach more people with migration background in Austria, we decided to produce also Bosnian and Turkish versions. The English version has the potential to reach beyond the partnership.<< Objectives >>As most of the existing climate literacy websites require readers do not take into account the low reading level of a big part of the population, we aimed to reach out to this sizable demographic by launching a new ""Climate Questions Portal"" that explains the present status of climate change in adequate, simple language, and provides concrete recommendations for immediate, individual steps that can be taken to lessen its impact. We aimed to simplify these difficult subjects so that those from non-European backgrounds or with lesser levels of education may grasp them. Not only did we want to educate, but also encourage and motivate our users for becoming more ""climate literate"" and, in the long run, more equipped to live more sustainably.<< Implementation >>The activities were carefully planned before submitting the application. We have planned five activities which reflect the work plan necessary to achieve the project’s objectives:Activity 1 concerns the entire project management. It included the bilateral contracts between the coordinator and the partners, the financial management, elaboration of project management guidelines and of a quality management plan, organisation of meetings (face to face and online), a working time monitoring system and the elaboration of the progress and this final report.Activity 2 concerned the development of the contents for the Portal. We decided for six modules plus a glossary. The themes were: climate questions, ecological footprint, transport and traffic, household and energy, food and waste, and shopping. This activity included also the translations.Activity 3 included all work which was necessary to make the contents visible and available through IT: the design of the e-platform, the development of the mobile app, and the production of audio versions. In activity 4, we tested the materials prior to their final publication, and had the opportunity to make amendments.Activity 5 covered all aspect of dissemination and networking.<< Results >>The concrete output is the e-platform Klima-Krise.eu. It is accessible in six languages (English, German, Slovene, Greek, Bosnian and Turkish) and gives access to the learning and information modules. In addition, it gives background information about the project and explains our motivation for the project logo, which is a graphic with stripes that turn from mainly blue to mainly red, illustrating the rise in average temperatures. Finally, the user can also find information about the project partners. The Internet access to the e-platform is via https://klima-krise.eu. The layout of the screens depends on the hardware which is used (computer/laptop or mobile phone), in order to make the contents more easily accessible. Each module offers also a podcast where one can listen to its content."
